Transferring live mice, snakes, and insects from a glass container using
your bare mouth. Someone keeps on singing, dancing and acting as the
jury will criticize on their performance, answering a line of song lyrics and
winning money easily, competing with a number of groups and travelling
from one country to another while completing task given in order to win
an amount of money.Familiar? Yes, they call these reality shows.
Believe it or not, Akademi Fantasia a reality TV show that have a highest
success rating in Malaysia and because of that, other TV stations are
competing to organize and produce one too. It is one of the reality TV
shows that had generated much excitement and grabbed the attention
from Malaysian people. Most Malaysians enjoy watching reality TV shows
that are search for the new talents, such as Akademi Fantasia, One in a
Million, and Mentor.
Although reality television shows have created new dreams and hopes for
television producers, advertising agents, aspiring contestants and devoted
viewers in Malaysia, the government is not too pleased with some of
these programs. In the year 2005, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia
,Datuk Seri Najib Razak was reported to have complained that the shows
have borrowed extensively from the Western culture and he expressed
his anxiety that the show could have negative impacts on the viewers.
Malaysian youth is certainly the main target audience of reality TV shows.
The things that worried by people is that the reality TV shows would bring
negative impacts on youth. Thus the talent show to search for singing
stars should not be encouraged in Malaysia because it will give impact to
the future generation or leaders in Malaysia, wastes of time and money
occurred and it will restrict the development of the brain.
First things first, let me brief all of you how can those reality TV shows
give a huge impact on young generation.

Reality TV show can give a bad impact to the future generation or leaders
in Malaysia
The youth will think and see that talent show is a shortcut for a successful

audition, they would never turn back to their student life as they are busy
with the talent show. This shown how narrows their mind to think the
way of their future will be. How can they become a leader if they cannot
make a right and well decision for themselves.
In addition, their behavior or culture in the reality TV show would affect
not only their pride but also the country’s pride. As a country that
practices Islam as an official religion, a Muslim participant should behave
well and know the do’s and don’ts in Islam. When they are eliminated, a
scene of hugging publicly with the non “muhrim”, will give a bad
impression to people from other religions.
Moving on to another reason why the talent show should not be
encouraged in Malaysia.
Watching and have a deep interest in reality TV show will lead to wastes
of money and time
In an article in The Sun newspaper, written by Husin on the 9th August
2005, he reported that the third season of Akademi Fantasia had created
such craze among the Malaysian public that it ranked in RM 1.7 million
through audience short messaging system (SMS) for the final round. Mawi
who was the eventual winner has since become the nation’s hottest
celebrity with the local media describing the hype surrounding him as
‘Mawimania’. Another contestant from another reality TV show, Daniel
Lee, beat 900 other aspirants and survived four grueling months of
competition to become the second Malaysian Idol. In the same year, in
2005 The Star newspaper reported that The Malaysian Idol 2 Grand Finale
held on 23rd September 2005 received 1.67 million votes. All of the SMS
votes are done by people that had a keen interest in reality TV shows.
They are willing to spend money to vote for their favorite contestant. But
what did they get from spending too much money on it? By doing all the
things such as voting, buying merchandises etc. to support their favorite
contestant, they will not gain any benefit from it. Truly, they will only
losses their money as their money is directly flowed through the company
that organized the show and to media as well as the contestants.
Furthermore, watching the diary of what the contestant does, study and
the other things could not give any benefit to viewers. When the viewers
are too obsessed with the reality TV show, they would not have any
interest on other things. This could lead wasting their time and prevent
them from doing the things that can gain benefit for them or to
community.
Last but not least, watching too much reality TV show would bring harm
to the brain.
Obsessed with reality TV shows will restrict the development of the brain.
Watching all those things related to the reality TV show either concerts,
diaries etc. will make our brain do not work much. We only watch their
performances and listen to their voices. This will make your brain not to
do any thinking. In contrast with the things that we can gain benefits
from, for example reading. We have to mentally create images of what
we are reading. This will require significant brain power to do. So when
we are reading, we are effectively exercising our brain.

CONCLUSION
Moreover, watching television appears to be especially harmful to
children as their brain has not yet fully developed. Increased television
viewing in children tends to impair frontal lobe development. This region
of the brain is responsible for impulse control and one’s ability to
concentrate. So, parents should practice to not let their children often
watching television as it will affect their brain. For example, when parents
are watching the reality TV show, of course they will bring along their
children and this will effect not only their brain but also their children’s
brain. The good thing about watching television is when parents are
practicing their children to watch something that enable the brain to think
for example National Geographic. Not only the brain will think and work
well, but it will help to expose their children with the outside world early
in a fresh age.
It is the best for us to think wisely to watch or not to watch or support the
reality TV show to search for singing stars.
3) CONCLUSION
a) Summary of main
points
b) Close with impact
In a conclusion, I want to uphold my stand that the talent show for singing
stars should not be encouraged in Malaysia because it will give bad
impact to the future generation or leaders in Malaysia, wastes time and
money occurred and it will restrict the development of the brain.
Within this new era and having technology that had improve day by day,
we can control culture that can lead to the destruction of traditional
culture in Malaysia. This will help Malaysia to practice a good and strong
cultural in which it include high self-discipline, customs, ethics and moral
value. Only then the societies will be able to face all kinds of negative
influences that can hit the communities these days. Think and choose
wisely. A decision can greatly affect us, communities and the country.
