AIM
The aim of this course is to provide a motivating environment to empower students to develop a strong
background knowledge in biology, understand the nature of science, and apply skills developed in this course
to other areas of their lives.

Students are to be assessed on the four strands indicated by the Ontario Government. Weighting of the
assessment will be as follows:

 Students do not have an automatic right to submit work late. Students are expected to submit work on
the established due dates.
 All students will not be penalized for their first late assignment. All subsequent late assignments will
result in a 10% deduction.
 Students cannot hand in an assignment for a mark once the assignments have been handed back to
the class; however they can submit it for feedback.
 Students who miss a test/alternative assessment without prior communication to the teacher shall
receive a mark of zero on that evaluation. In the event of absence for extenuating circumstances,
students will be required to provide a valid note upon return to school.
 There will be no make-up tests after the test date set. Students may ask to write the test day early
if they know in advance that they will be away. If a student misses one test due to illness or other
reason, then that test will not count towards the student’s final mark provided that the student
presents a medical note for their absence upon returning to school. Unexcused absences for a test
will result in a mark of zero. If a student is present for all tests, the lowest test mark will be dropped at
the end of the course. Dropping a test is a privilege not a right and the lowest test will only be dropped
if all tests were written on time.
 Plagiarism is completely unacceptable! All information obtained should be properly referenced.
Students should keep all their rough notes and drafts for assignments to be handed in to the teacher
if asked. Students who plagiarize will face a serious academic penalty.
