Control Systems Lab
1. Lead – Lag Network Study Unit
Sine wave generator-50Hz-1.0KHz.
Micro controller based frequency/phase angle meter with lead/lag indication. Peak
detector unit to measure the Vpeak of network input and network output to calculate gain.
Different Values of Resistors and capacitors supplied along with this unit to connect in
Lead Lag and Lead-Lag Network.
2. PID Controller.
PID Controllers are very often used in industrial process control to ensure that a
parameter such as speed temperature flow etc is maintained to be constant desired value.
P-I-D stands for Proportional Integrated Derivative control, as the controller uses all
these in the feedback. One can also have P control, PI or PD controllers depending on the
requirement. All these are feedback controller with variable values for P,I and D. To
enable training of students in all these aspects, a PID controller with builtin set point
generation, controller and simulated process are provided for studying the performance of
the controller in closed loop.
3. Synchro Transmitter Receiver Pair
 This set up is designed to demonstrate the working of a synchro transmitter with
the help of a synchro receiver.
 The input and output angular displacement displayed on the dials.
 Two rotor terminals (R1 and R2) and stator terminals (S1, S2, and S3) are brought
out on the front panel.
 AC panel meter is provided to measure the voltage of stator and rotor points.
The system should be suitable in two parts:1. To Study synchro transmitter only, which should demonstrates how a given
angular position is converted into a unique set of stator voltages.
2. To study interconnected of synchro transmitter and receiver pair which should
demonstrates working ofSynchro pair as torque transmitter.
4. Effect of P, PD, PI, PID Controller on a second order systems
This set up is designed to develop clear understanding of a typical PID controller with
facility for proportional. Integral and Derivative control mode. The system can be
patched up by the students with the help of instruction manual and labels and diagrams
provided on the anodized top of the experimental board. Proportional gain, Integral time
constant and Derivative time constant can be adjusted. The generation of offset of A/c of
only proportional action can be understood. How this offset can be removed by means of
integral mode (P+I) can be checked and the improvement in the dynamic response also
can be demonstrated. This total set up is only a simulation of actual PID controller. The
set up comes with one analog voltmeter and a digital voltmeter.

position can be converted intorepresentative analog voltage and how the angle of
misalignment between the two potentiometers can be accuratelymeasured.
6. Characteristics of DC Servo motor
 DC Servo motor – 24V/400gm-cm.
 Microcontroller based speed measuring system.
 Mechanical loading arrangement for motor.
 Digital ammeter to measure load current.
 0-24V variable DC supply for speed variation.
7. Characteristics of AC Servo motor
 Two phase AC servomotor-230volts.
 Auto transformer to vary the control voltage to vary the speed.
 Digital Ammeter to measure the current.
 Microcontroller based digital speed indicator using photo electric sensor.
 Indirect loading using PMDC motor.

error detector.
 Output potentiometer, similar as input potentiometer to convert output position
into a voltage signal
 Summing amplifier with adjustable gain.
 Armature controlled D. C. servomotor with suitable couplingrequired for
i)output position indicator and
ii)Tachogenerator.
 D.C. tachogenerator coupled to d. c. motor,for derivative feedback.
 Preamplifier and power amplifier to drive the D.C. motoron the basis of the error
signal. D.C. motor is 12 volt, lamp, and permanent magnet with gear train.

2.
The scheme proposed in this section is as follows:
RAW WATER PUMP ----> MULTIMEDIA FILTER ----> ACTIVATED
CARBON FILTER ----> MICRON FILTER ---- > HIGH PRESSURE PUNP
RO BLOCK ---- >STORAGE TANK (1000LTS S.S) ---- >U.V.STERILISER ---- >
OZONAOR1gm/hr---- >
The details for process and equipment specifications are given in the other
sections of this offer.
3.
The TDS of water shall be reduced to a major extent in the RO section. The
treated water quality expected out of RO section shall be as follows:
TDS ……… 50 ppm or less
The above treated water quality shall be attainted subject to the following:
a.
b.
c.
d.
e.
Raw water analysis is not worse than mentioned above.
Plant is operated strictly as per the instructions of O & M manual
supplied along with the plant.
Specified quantity of good quality chemicals are used for the
preconditioning of water.
Original spares are used for replacement.
The feed water limiting conditions are maintained.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
The raw water is fed in the inlet of multi media filter for removal of suspended
impurities.
The filtered water shall be passed through activated carbon filter for removing
color and odor from the water. After activated carbon filter,
Then water is pumped at high pressure through RO block. Where in, the major
quantity of dissolved salts are rejected of dissolved salts are rejected stream and
almost the pure water or permeate comes as a separate stream.
