ServicesProvided:
Food Distribution- Non-perishable foods are donated by individuals, churches, local businesses, service organizations & schools. Fresh meat, eggs, bread & cheese are purchased weekly
from a local grocer. Volunteers go to the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) in Austin each week
to collect supplemental food items. Financial Aid- Individuals seeking financial aid for
necessities (i.e., electricity, water, propane, etc.) are helped by volunteer members of a so- cial
work committee. These volunteers assess requests, make payments within defined guide- lines,
and report to the Board on the appropriate actions taken. This assistance is provided to help our
neighbors in need to “get back on their feet,” enabling them to lend a helping hand to others
when their own situation improves. Confidentiality of clients is maintained at all times.
Back to School- School supplies are provided for those students requesting aid. Helping Hands
works closely with DSISD schools & volunteers to collect needed items which are distributed at
the pantry. Local churches & businesses “Adopt a Grade” to provide funding for the supplies.
Project Elf- is a community wide Christmas gift drive for families in the Dripping Springs area
that need an extra hand.

Camp Family For Life- enables siblings to try new things and get reacquainted with one another through activities. Campers are matched with a volunteer buddy that can provide the support and encouragement that they may need to have a positive experience at camp. Teambuilding Games– is designed to support, empower and prepare families in foster care as they approach their emancipation from the foster system. The Care Team– serves as support and intervention resource and tool for siblings struggling to communicate with one another or experiencing difficulty with the reunification or transition process. Family Activities– we create
situations where children can experience positive, self-affirming childhood events and activi- ties.
We are dedicated to understanding these events as times to heal in the sometimes turbulent
relationship between siblings. The Dad’Zone- supports fatherhood through education, teambuilding activities and weekly discussion and activity groups in a 12-week curriculum. The
Dad’Zone also provides mentor services and support to fathers in our community, as well as inhome services as needed or requested. Other support programs offered- individual peer support, peer support in a group setting, family ‘playshops’, take home resources & activities,
workshops for parents, services on a donation basis.

The Children’s Shelter- children are cared for until it is safe for them to return home or until
permanent living arrangements can be made. Referrals come from the Texas Department of
Family & Protective Services, local law enforcement and the children themselves. Counselingchildren, under the age of 18 who live in Hays County or who are eligible to attend Hays
County schools and their families are eligible to receive STAR services at no charge. These
programs are provided in an effort to keep children at home and to strengthen families. Parenting- you will have access to the evidence-based program, STEP, to help you, as a parent, feel
better about the job you’re doing and to enjoy your children more than ever before. STEP classes
provide the tools for you to fulfill this challenge in an effective, non-threatening man- ner. Kids
Exchange- this program is provided to support your children who are facing chal- lenges due to
parental separation, divorce or other family conflict by providing a safe environ- ment where
they can further develop and experience positive relationships with the adults in their lives.

Substance Abuse Screening– in partnership with Bluebonnet MHMR, alcohol and drug screenings and
assessments are provided at the Council office. Call 512-396-7695 for an appointment. For Crisis
intervention, call 800-508-0834. Follow-Up Services. After clients are provided the appropriate treatment
referral to meet their individual needs, the Council provides continuing guidance and support to the client
following initial service. Information and Education Services– The Council increases community
awareness of alcohol, drug, and related issues and resources through community presentations, community
events such as Red Ribbon Week, and health fairs. Prevention Programs i n c l u d e Life Skills Education
in the classroom for 3-8 grades and with students K-12 grades during the school day in small groups
through the Kids Connection and Youth Connection Program. High School students can also receive
classroom education through the Project Toward No Drug Abuse Program. Treatment Program- Project
HOPE provides substance abuse services on an outpatient basis for adolescents and their families. IOPAdult Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program provides substance abuse services for adults on an outpatient
basis. Offender Education Programs for minors offered are: Minor in Possession (MIP); Minor in Possession
of Tobacco (MIT) Nature of Marijuana (NOM).
