“A Call For Support”
1.WHEREAS: It is the duty of the Associated Student Government to look inside and
2.beyond the boundaries of Texas State University-San Marcos to support causes that
3.will positively impact Texas State students, the City of San Marcos, and the great State
4.of Texas; and
5.WHEREAS:The city of San Marcos is contemplating the construction of a new Austin
6.Community College campus here in San Marcos; and
7.WHEREAS:Austin Community College is the number one feeder college into Texas
8.State University-San Marcos; and
9.WHEREAS:The San Marcos community has a high percentage of people living in
10.Poverty; and
11.WHEREAS: Austin Community College can provide college courses, including
12. summer courses for current Texas State students, at a cheaper cost; and
13. WHEREAS: An Austin Community College campus will bring in more students and
14. Revenue into the San Marcos community; therefore
15.BE IT RESOLVED: By the Associated Student Government of Texas State
16.University-San Marcos that we support the initiative to bring an ACC campus to the
17.City of San Marcos; and
16. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That this legislation be forwarded to ASG
17.advisor Kathy Weiser, Community Relations Director Kim Porterfield, Dean of
Students Dr. Margarita Arellano, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Joanne Smith
and University President Dr. Denise Trauth upon passage.
