I.
Call to Order
a. The meeting was called to order at 12:01 p.m.
II.
Approval of Agenda
a. Continued from previous meeting
III.
Approval of Minutes from 10/18
a. J. Reitter noted that the minutes should read that COM 131 had been listed as 3 credits,
where it should be listed as 1-3 credits. M. Karau will make correction.
b. J. Kabrhel moved to approve minutes as amended; M. Karau seconded. The minutes
were unanimously approved.
IV.
MAT
a. The committee returned to the discussion re: offering MAT 081 and whether there would
be the enrollments to support it. P. Fitzer said that, by 2011-12, perhaps Student Services
could develop a database that would allow identification of students needing geometry, in
order to ensure better enrollments and prevent students from circumventing the
requirement for 105. The committee decided to add MAT 081 to the Spring 2012 slate.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Math slate.
V.
MUS
a. It was noted that the affiliation with the Lakeland College band had been removed for the
time being, since their department is in flux, so MUS 071 is no longer on the slate.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Music slate.
VI.
PHI/REL
a. Committee members noted that the only difference in the 2011-12 slate compared to the
present year is the replacement of REL 258 with the special topics course on Islam.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Philosophy/Religion slate.
VII.
HES
a. J. Reitter told the committee that he had informed the proposed instructors of HES 219
(Raunio & Skurzewski) that the course must be taught as an elective and not a crosslisted course, because BUS 219 does not exist in the catalog.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the HES slate as amended above.
VIII.
POL
a. The committee discussed the proposed (possible) substitution of POL 219 for one of the
spring sections of 104 in the fall and decided to leave it up to the department/instructors.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Political Science slate ,whatever the
decision above.
IX.
PHY-AST
a. The committee discussed the addition of PHY 115 to the fall slate in 2011 and the
addition of PHY 141/142, which was not taught in 2010-11.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Physics/Astronomy slate.
X.
PSY/EDU
a. Members discussed the addition of a third section of PSY 202 in both fall and spring and
whether all sections were likely to fill.
b. P. Fitzer noted that, with new requirements related to the UWO BSN collaboration, the
campus should be teaching PSY 250 instead of 360, since the former is UWO’s
requirement. J. Reitter will ask Mary Buser if she would agree to this change.
c. P. Fitzer also pointed out that EDU 300 is not on the slate and is a requirement of the
UWO Early Childhood Education Degree. Committee members wondered if this was an
oversight. J. Reitter will ask Shirley Hardersen if she intends to teach the course in 201112.
d. The committee will hold approval of the slate pending receipt of additional information.
XI.
SOC/ANT/AIS
a. It was noted that the slate is identical to 2010-11 except that SOC 231 is replaced with
SOC 246 in spring 2012.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Sociology/Anthropology/AIS slate.
XII.
WORLD LANGUAGES
a. The only change in the slate from the previous year is to replace SPA 226 (Adv. Comp.)
in spring with SPA 237 (Latino Lit.)
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the World Language slate.
XIII.
WOM
a. The committee noted that WOM/SOC 238 will again be offered in Spring 2012.
b. The committee voted to tentatively approve the Women’s Studies slate.
