Case Study: Group Assignment 30% Good morning, In each class, four Groups have been established for the Group assignment. For a variety of reasons, but primarily to ensure fairness, I have allocated each student to a group on a random basis. Please note that each student should immediately order each case study on ecch.com. Make sure that you have so for class on November 8. The Online class on November 8 is of crucial importance. You need to check out the Group Assignments section of MGT 490 on Business Strategy website. Read the file on Undertaking Case Study analysis and pay close attention to the instructions provided. This assignment involves you making a classroom presentation. Please note that you are assessed on your PPT presentation. In other words, imagine you email me your presentation and I grade the document. In order to make an effective presentation, each student will need to go through the following sequence: 1. PROCESSING THE CASE STUDY Process the case study: this will involve hours of work and demand that you compile detailed tables to help you understand better the complexities of the case. Each member of the Group should have a detailed file (eg Word or Excel) that they can share with all other Group members. Any student who lacks this or has clearly not spent hours on this is ill-prepared. In processing the case, you are looking for “clues”. So you need to scour all parts of the case (including exhibits) for such, and you are seeking to identify ALL the key constituent parts that make up the case. You should prepare files and tables something like this: Case Study Key Data Implications/Significance Suggests what? Helps undertake what type of analysis Paragraph 1 Key Points Product Type A Product Type B C etc 2. PREPARATION After have processed the case you are now ready to begin to prepare the case. You should aim to develop an excellent primary question (i.e. slide 1) and then secondary questions (i.e. slide 2) that obviously arise from the primary question. The secondary questions provide your structure. You should have a minimum of 20 slides and a maximum of 40 slides. Your presentation should last between 35-45 minutes. If your presentation lasts less than 25 minutes, you can be certain that it is very poor indeed and will automatically receive an F grade. You must make sure that in EVERY single slide (barring the first 2) that you draw a conclusion (i.e. your Group is providing added value). You cannot pass if your slides are simply a DESCRIPTIVE SUMMARY of the case. Attractive slides are often NOT analytical. Taking information in the case and converting into pie charts and bar charts is NOT analysis. It is simply providing a “cute image”. 3. PRESENTATION Each student is invited to make a special effort to present in professional attire. Slides must not be full of lengthy text. This simply does not work. Make extensive use of Tables to facilitate comparisons. 4. THE CASE STUDIES Groups 1 and 2 Case Study 1: The Evolution Of The Bottled Water Industry: Ready For The 'Water Wars'?
