BFI FAB Film Idea 1
Written by Joshua Burbridge
Concept
 Multiple Personalities
 The idea that we present ourselves differently dependent on
where we are and what situation we are in.
 The characters mannerisms are expressed in a very
exaggerated way to make the concept of multiple
personalities clear.
 The film attempts to show the effect of a personality shift,
where one personality from one scenario is present in a
different scenario.
Characterisation
 Ben appears to be a regular 18 year old teenager. Tall,
skinny, good-looking and charming, yet he has a mystery to
him.
 His personalities seem fake, they are layered on like a mask,
creating personas that display the way he should be rather
than how he truly is.
Visuals
 There could be a different theme to every scenario, i.e. there
could be a different colour scheme/grading to each scene to
mirror his changing personality.
 The lighting and colour gradually becomes darker as the
protagonist looses control.
 The use of match cuts to transition from scene to scene –
e.g. a cup in the café cuts to a beer glass in the pub – like in
Edgar Wright films.
Sound
 The films relies very heavily on sounds, retaining a consistent
motif of the Newton’s Cradle to metaphorically represent the
‘knock-on’ effect of having different personalities, and what
would happen if one of the personalities from one context is
present in a different context.
 There are many sounds written into the script that intend to
make the film appear ominous.
 Sound is also used to create bridges which will make the
transitions between scenes fluid and connected.
Animation
 Potential chance to make a special effects scene where the
camera pans through the eye of our main protagonist and his
sent messages can be seen being listed and selected key
words become high lighted and enlarged.
BFI FAB Film Idea 2
Written by Ademola Bello
Concept
 The film will be based around the idea of “catfish”.
 People pretending to be something they are not over some
sort of social media.
 Also the dualities we all posses when presented with hard
decisions.
Characterisation
 The three main characters are typical teenagers.
 The “Charlie” that Julia manifests is too good to be true.
 Julia’s intentions behind catfishing Ellie are somewhat
ambiguous – possible jealousy / obsession with Ellie.
Visual
 Visually the film will be dark and somber
 Also an aspect of “glitchy-ness” because we know some of
the interactions are not actually taking place(wreck it Ralph,
Vanellope character)
 The initial scene involving Ellie and Charlie meeting could be
heavily stylized. They would be lit brightly and Julia presence
would be blurred by the camera, all her words would also
sort of reverberate around them. A makeshift barrier is
keeping her from interacting with them.
 Key hole shot could be used when Julia is approaching
Ellie’s house during the film’s climax
Sound
 Sound would be moody and ominous.
 Scene involving the running climax would be very intense
building music.
 We would also have noises of typing and phone message
tones being embedded into their speech.
Animation
 The film could be a bit ‘absurdist’ and the end could be
marked with the phone trying to escape.
 This can be done with stop motion.
 While Ellie and Julia hug it crawls of the bed and drops and
sneakily tries to escape but then Julia stomps on it.
 Basically the film builds to the point where Julia is confronted with
the ‘Charlie’ aspect of her personality that she has created. A part
of her wants Ella to just say something in order ease her
conscience. She goes through the internal struggle which we
visually represent, the part that wants the quick fix, to abdicate
responsibility and the part that know what she did was wrong and
how she has to face the consequences. We can all relate to this
feeling in our lives. This idea is the general theme for the film and
could be built upon a bit more within the script.
