Focus: If you could create your own religion, what would it look like?
Objectives: SWBAT create their own religion using the information they have gained
about world religion in this class.
Instruction:



Engage and Connect
Discussion of focus answers
The instructor will then pass out the instructions for the “Create your own
Religion” project
o The class will read the instructions using the popcorn method and the
instructor will answer questions about it after.
o The class will decide on partners or whether they will work on it alone.
o The rest of the period will be designated to working on the project.
Assessing Mastery/Higher Order Thinking: The student’s ticket to leave will be the
name of their religion and God, and religious laws.

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015
Focus: If your religion was real, how do you think it would impact the world?
Objectives: SWBAT Create a religion with a “creation myth.”
Instruction:





Engage and Connect
Discussion of focus answers
The instructor will model a completed “Create a religion” project using
PowerPoint to answer any further questions about what is expected of them.
The instructor will also pass out and discuss the grading rubric with the class.
The rest of the class period will be reserved for the project
Assessing Mastery/Higher Order Thinking: The student’s ticket to leave will be a
completed creation myth.
Materials: PowerPoint; grading rubric
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015
Focus: In your religion, explain how your symbol summarizes and covers all major
aspects of your religion.
Objectives: SWBAT complete an essay describing their fictional religion.
Instruction:




Engage and Connect
Discussion of focus answers
Review of what “essay format” is
The rest of the class will be devoted to working on completing their essays.
Assessing Mastery/Higher-Order Thinking: The student’s ticket to leave will be a
completed essay.
Materials: Projector; and how to write an essay handout;

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015
Focus: What is the main crux of your religion? Does everything in your project revolve
around this?
Objectives: SWBAT complete their projects and begin working on completing their Final
Review packet.
Instruction:




Engage and Connect
Discussion of focus answers
The entire period will be devoted to completing the project.
If they have completed their project, with the instructor’s permission, they can
begin working to complete their Final Review Packet.
Assessing Mastery/Higher Order Thinking: The student’s will be asked to respond to the
prompt: “What have you accomplished with this project and what do you still have left to do?”

Friday, December 4th, 2015
Focus: After creating your own religion, what have you learned about world religions?
Was this project enjoyable and educational?
Objectives: SWBAT present their projects by playing Religion wars.
Instruction:

The entirety of the period will be devoted to groups presenting their projects to
the class.
Assessing Mastery/Higher Order Thinking: The students ticket to leave will be their
Learning Target and Focus page for the week.
