ANDREW HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GENERAL LESSON PLAN GRADE: ___ DATE:__________________________________ DURATION: 55 minutes UNIT: TOPIC: Introduction to the Old Testament Sects in Judaism MATERIALS: sect, markers BYOD, Wi-Fi, Strips of Paper with information on each OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson students should be able to: PREREQUSITE KNOWLEDGE: Define the word ‘sect’ Identify six sects in Judaism Describe the six sects in Judaism Examine the contributing factors of the sects in Judaism Students should be aware of the Intertestamental period PROCEDURE 1. Pray 2. Return and correct test papers on covenant 3. Students will be told to use their devices to go on the internet and research a simple and effective definition for the word ‘sect’. Volunteers will be asked to give the meaning in their own understanding. One or two definitions will be noted on the board for students to copy in their books. Students will then guess what the topic for this lesson will be. 4. It will be explained to students that there are many sects in Judaism and they will be exploring six of them. 5. Students will be placed in six groups of 6/7. Each group will be given a strip of paper with information on a Jewish sect. They will get five minutes to go outside the class room to plan a short enactment of each sect. They will return to the class and as each group role play the class will identify characteristics of the sect (a grade will be assigned to each group for their presentation).These characteristics will be noted on the board for students to write in their books. CULMINATING ACTIVITY Students will share what they learnt in class. Each student will give a sentence related to a sect they did not enact. ST.
