Algebra 2 – Sun Valley High School Miss Runkle 2014-2015 Welcome to Accelerated Algebra 2! I am very excited to have you in my class! Below are some rules, guidelines and expectations on how you can be successful in my class. Please read the following along with your parent/guardian. Classroom Rules: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Arrive on time to class with the required materials. Follow directions. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat. Respect yourself and others. All students are held responsible for rules found in Student Handbook. School-wide Rules: Perseverance Responsibility Integrity Drive Establish Greatness Requirements for class every day/Materials: - A 3 ring binder with 7 separate sections Loose-leaf / 1 subject notebook and graph paper Pencil (NO INK) Classroom Policies and Procedures: Entering the Classroom: 1. Be in your seat before the bell rings. 2. Begin working on the “Do Now” exercise found on the board. This should be done on the “Do Now” worksheet and kept in your binder. Teacher will collect “Do Now” worksheet every Friday. 3. Work individually and quietly on this exercise. Tardy to class: Students should be in class BEFORE the bell rings. If you arrive after the bell, students must enter with a pass. I will follow the consequences found in the student handbook. All tardies are reported to the attendance office. Absences: Students should always be in class unless you are seriously ill. If you are absent on the day an assignment is due, it is your responsibility to hand in the work in the day you come back. All students are responsible for work missed due to an absence from class for any reason. Students are also responsible for discussing with the teacher a time to make up any missed assignment or assessment. If it is an independent assignment, students will be allotted one day extra for the assignment. Grading: Students are permitted to discuss his or her grades with the teacher at any time. Students’ grades will be posted each week and it is the students responsibility to check their grades. Our grading scale will be based on the following scale: 60% Tests and Quizzes 20% Team Tests 10% Homework/Classwork 10% Classroom Participation (Warm-Ups/Exit Tickets) In Algebra 2, we will be covering 14 Main Units using the CPM textbook: Unit 1: Investigations and Functions Unit 2: Sequence and Equivalence Unit 3: Exponential Functions Unit 4: Solving Intersections Unit 5: Inverses and Logarithms Unit 6: Transformation of Parent Graphs Unit 7: Trigonometric Functions Unit 8: Polynomials Unit 9: Probability and Counting Unit 10: Conic Sections Unit 11: Series Consequences for Classroom Rule Violations: If you violate a rule, you may be assigned a consequence. Depending on the frequency and severity of the misbehavior, you may receive one or more of the following consequences: - Time owed after class Parental contact Detention Contact the office or the discipline team Consequences for Student Handbook Violations: If a student breaks a rule that is covered in the Student Handbook, I must refer the situation to the administration for further actions. Reminders: * The use of electronic devices (cell phones, ipods, ipads, etc.) is not permitted in the classroom (Laptops only when stated by the teacher). *I have a no tolerance policy for cheating. If a student cheats it will result in a ZERO. As stated in the Student Handbook, consequences of cheating include suspension and conference with parent/guardian, restitution and possible expulsion. *Each student will be assigned a calculator number. Students should only use the calculator assigned to them. Students are responsible for putting away their calculator at the end of class. Class Website: I have designed a class website for Algebra 2 on my big campus (www.mybigcampus.com). Homework, class notes, instructional videos, and worksheets will be posted daily on the website. Students are responsible for checking my big campus on a daily basis.
