Refresher Meeting Note: Students were notified of the MSW I
Foundation Year Course requirements by the:
a. “Incoming MSW Student Registration and Information materials
for Fall 2010” when you were first accepted into the MSW
program (March –May 2011);
b. SDSU SSW Graduate Student Handbook – latest edition;

Field Education at SSW

Two, academic year-long (Fall & Spring semesters) field
practicums.
 Foundation yr: Generalist
 Advanced: Concentration specific
15 units total in MSW program (1/4 of program is Field)
Concurrent Model:
 Must be in co-requisite practice courses when in field
Significant time commitment:
 Foundation Yr. – 16 hours per week in practicum + field
orientation and seminars
Credit / No Credit / RP grading in course:
 Evaluated according to competencies achieved (in practicum &
seminars)
 Competencies based on curriculum – field learning objectives (&
EPAS standards)
