Announcements

The Community Learning Center of Martin County in hosting a SAT Preparation
Workshop for college-bound high school students. These classes are scheduled for
Wednesdays, Oct 5-Oct 26 from 7-9pm. Cost is $25. Please contact Kris at 812-2952674 for more information.

CONNECTIONS is now accepting referrals for Jubilee Christmas. If you have someone
you know who may benefit from a little help with the cost of presents for children over
Christmas please don’t hesitate to refer them. Families must be referred by either a
school or church. You must live in Daviess County to participate. To be referred, please
contact Mrs. Sward at 486-3265 by October 12th.

The Homework Hotline is open. Don’t hesitate to call for evening math and science
homework help throughout the school year. Help is available Sunday through Thursday

Are you looking for a way to get involved in a community project? Let AngelWorx be the
answer! The Generations AngelWorx program is in need of TeenAngels. There are two
ways you can earn your wings by either becoming a Pen Pal or Color for a Cause. For


Beginning with students applying for fall 2012, Vincennes University will require every
applicant to have a high school diploma earned via passage of a graduate qualifying
exam (GQE), or to have a general educational development (GED) diploma. This means
that students who have a high school diploma earned through a GQE waiver will need to
complete certain steps to be considered for admissions. For these steps please contact
the guidance office.

The Art Institutes specialize in hands-on, career-oriented education that prepares
students for entry-level employment as creative professionals. To better understand the

Ball State University offers four-year degrees in art history, ceramics, drawing, electronic
art and animation, glass, metals/jewelry design, painting, photography, printmaking,
sculpture, visual communication (graphic design), and a K-12 teaching major in visual
arts. Students get to work with artists, historians, and educators from their first day of
classes as part of one of the most exciting art programs in the Midwest.


The Army has developed a new test prep program for you! March 2 Success is an online
test prep course that will provide help with taking standardized tests, and improve

Scholarships/Contests
The Veterans of Foreign Wars is sponsoring the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Contest for
students in grades 9-12. This year's theme is 'Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?' The top
award (national) is $30,000 with the remaining awards being a portion of the remaining
$121,000 prize ‘money’. All winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC.
Deadline for submission is November 1, 2011. Local winners will be recognized by the VFW
Post 3312 at the Veterans Day ceremony on November 11th at 11:00am. For complete

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is sponsoring the Patriot's Pen essay contest for students in
grades 6-8. This year's theme is 'Are You Proud of your Country?' The top award (national) is a
$10,000 savings bond. The top 46 winners receive savings bonds from $1,000 up to $8,000 for
2nd place. All winners receive an all-expense trip to Washington, DC. Deadline for submission is
November 1, 2011. Local winners will be recognized by the VFW Post 3312 at the Veterans Day

The National Center for Women and Information Technology is offering Awards ($500 and a
laptop) for Aspirations in Computing for girls in grades 9-12 who have an outstanding aptitude
or interest in Information Technology or Computing. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA or

October 31, 2011.
The Indiana Dollars for Scholars program is sponsoring the Hoosier Heroes scholarship
competition for Indiana high school juniors and seniors. Award amount is $2,000. Please visit

The 2012 Profile in Courage Essay Contest is for students in grades 9-12. Students must write
an essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F.

Learn More Indiana is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades K-8 'Why are you
going to college? Winners could receive a $529 Indiana College Choice 529 Savings Plan. If

The University of Southern Indiana is hosting 'Accounting Day' on Friday, October 28th for any
high school students interested in an accounting career. Students will have the opportunity to
listen to veteran accountants, learn about career opportunities available for accounting majors,
and talk to current students who will share information that may be helpful in your selection of
a college or major. The day is from 10:00-2:00pm our time and lunch is included. To register

Indiana State University is offering Audition/Scholarships dates for music November 7, January
23, February 10, February 11, and February 20. ISU is also hosting Music Career Days for all
college-bound music students on Monday, November 7th and Friday, February 10th. For more

University of Southern Indiana: USI will be hosting Southern Hospitality Days on numerous

Rose-Hulman: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers individual visit days throughout the
week. To schedule a visit is best to request the date you wish to attend two weeks ahead of

University of Evansville will be hosting Open Houses on October 15, November 5, January 16,

Purdue University: The Purdue University Women in Engineering Program invites you to
attend a FREE daylong engineering series for high school seniors called Seniors Exploring
