As a member of the freshman council, I have seen the good the student body can
accomplish together. Furthermore, I endeavor to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard
and considered. As a senator I would work to make the legislative body productive and
effective for all those within the College of Arts & Sciences. I would work to improve
existing traditions, such as the art fair, while also creating exciting new improvements for
the college.

Hello my name is Meghan Mattingly and I am running for President of the College of
Education. My mission, as candidate for President is to give a voice to the students. I
wish to be someone they come to with any ideas or issues. I am very excited to work
closely with both the members of the college and the senators to make us more
competitive on campus. I have had experience as a leader by serving on the Executive
Board in my sorority. I am very passionate about creating a cohesive college.

I have a passion for student government, and I think that I can offer a voice for those in
my college. I believe that to be a great representative one must have open ears to student
concerns and open mind to student ideas. I will work to take these concerns and ideas and
turn them into solutions for the betterment of the community.
Nathan Groneck, Junior – Philosophy and Political Science, with a minor in Women’s and
Gender Studies
Description of Extracurricular Activities: I am an organizer with the RSO, Cards United Against
Sweatshops. We work together with social justice organizations on campus to build community,
reach out to media, and generally agitate the administration for policy changes in support of
students and workers. This semester, we have been pushing for an expansion of the living wage
policy to cover part-time, subcontracted workers as well as student workers. You may remember
our occupation of Grawemeyer Hall last year, when we successfully pushed the administration to
cut ties with Jansport. I am also a member of the mock trial team, as an attorney and a witness. I
work part-time, and when I get the time, I do enjoy some hiking and camping at Red River
Gorge.

I am running because President Ramsey has made an average of 1.5 million a year since
2006 while tuition has grown 267% during his tenure; because I believe Black,
immigrant, undocumented, and LGBTQ lives matter; because dorms are replaced with
private housing at $700-900/month per student; because we aren’t doing enough to stop
sexual violence or to support victims; because CFO Harlan Sands, compared mandating a
living wage to demanding marble countertops, and because President Ramsey said “This
university absolutely is a corporation and you’ve got to run it like a business.” I’m
running to amplify your voice.

Throughout my career at Trinity High School, I was also involved in Student
Government and brought many useful and essential changes to the school based on the
words of my fellow students, such as the implementation of more dining options and the
design of more student-based community service. As a college freshman, I am now
looking to input myself in the same sort of fashion at the University of Louisville and
hope to bring about significant changes to improve student life for all, especially those in
the College of Arts & Sciences, at our beloved university.

My candidacy to become your Student Body Executive Vice President is based upon my
desire to give back to the University of Louisville. My time here has been rich with lifechanging experiences, and I firmly believe that all students deserve the same
opportunities given to me. My leadership experience inside and outside of SGA has
exposed me to how far UofL has come and what challenges we still face as a community.
I will use my role to empower the student body and promote positive change that stems
from your representatives. My experience and drive will lead our University forward.

I have acquired and demonstrated leadership in the positions that I hold on campus and

Choosing to be an Education major has been one of the best decision that I have made at
the University of Louisville, and I want to not only enhance my knowledge of the College

I am running for senate to be active in the well being of the university. I think it is my
responsibility to represent my peers and to stay informed about my community. Being a
student senator will allow me to be informed more so than any average student about the
state of the university. This is important in improving the overall health of this campus
and its students. I have been in leadership roles before and the most important aspect is

I am, running for A&S Senator because I want to be involved with what is happening
with the University. I want to represent the students in my college on top of helping
facilitate their needs based on their wants, and what is good for our college and
university. I want to help be the voice of our college and have initiatives that will assist
what our college desires, for example surveys and Twitter polls. I have helped at many

Through my experience of working with my college’s council and serving as a senator on
SGA, I have realized the passion I have for serving students. Whether it was spending
time on the appropriations committee looking in depth at the expenditures and
establishing their necessity or receiving student emails at all hours of the day about a
problem they saw in the College of Engineering, I took the job serious. I listened to
students and became the voice to the administration and involved parties; I am running
for Academic Vice President to continue to be the voice of students.

Throughout my time as a UofL student I have participated in a variety of on-campus

student voices are heard. I am very good at collaborating and working with others to
resolve problems. I have a part time job so I understand the drive it takes for students

- As a two-year Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences, I have been
actively involved with the Student Government Association in improving our
campus year after year as well as engaging with the student body with what
they want to see happen on their campus community. I am running to be
Services Vice President because I want to make positive changes occur in the
different sectors of our campus community, such as dining and student safety
on campus. I want to represent ALL students, not just a select population, and I

- As a student, I am passionate about seeing positive change here at UofL. The
position of Academics VP will give me the ability to begin to implement a

Education Program to addressing the needs of at-risk students, I want to use my
relationship with the UofL administration and a number of faculty to take this
position to new heights.

Description of Extracurricular Activities: I am in Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women
where I have been Arrowboard Chair, Social chair, Homecoming chair and Fraternity
Philanthropy Relations Chair. I am currently on Fryberger Board where I am the
MC/Awards and Trophies coordinator. I am also on the Greek Week Board and was a
Recruitment Counselor for Panhellenic last year. Finally, I am involved with Cards in
Action.
- During my time at the University of Louisville I have been involved with
numerous organizations on campus, and I have had an amazing time getting to
know so many unique and intelligent individuals and I would love the
opportunity to represent so many of my peers and make a real difference on
campus. Student government is always something I have been passionate about
I just didn’t know how to get involved until recently and I would enjoy the
opportunity to really make an impact on this University that has contributed
greatly to my success thus far.

- UofL is one of our state’s premier academic institutions. We’ve worked hard to
get here but I know we can do even better. This past year I’ve been an A&S
Senator serving as the Senate’s Appropriations Chairman. I helped author and
pass our budget for next year. I have the experience to get things done for
students. As your Academic VP, I would continue to fight for students whether
it’s with the new academic building or redesigning general education classes.

University. As a TFF, the Political Coordinator, and the Chief of Staff of the
current administration I have garnered and developed many of the crucial skills
and necessary connections to be not only a leader, but an effective one.
