INTERNAL COMMUNICATION Faculty Open Day Newsletter – 11 June 2009 Date and times: Saturday 1 August, 10.00am – 4.00pm – Berwick, Peninsula and Gippsland Sunday 2 August, 10.00am – 4.00pm – Caulfield and Clayton Venues: Caulfield: Faculty displays in Chisholm Hall and presentations in the Link Theatre (S1.30) and the building N lecture theatres Clayton: A new site is being used for 2009. Faculty U/G displays in the Banquet rooms, with P/G display in the Cellar room. Presentations will be held in S9-12 lecture theatres in building 25 Berwick: Faculty displays on building 901 Mezzanine level and presentations in 113 and 117 Peninsula: Faculty displays in foyer L3 and 4 buidling D and presentations in D4.08 Gippsland: Faculty displays in Auditorium and presentations in 2E-201. Improved signage and increased use of Student Ambassadors/ helpers to help facilitate movement between display areas and lecture theatres. Course/ discipline based rather than Student Services/ Department base 2. Student experience 3. Showcase of GSB and research at Cauflield and Clayton. Five-year Faculty Open Day plan, a visual representation of the central booths layout and sample of the display dressing for course and discipline for Clayton, was circulated to Course Directors, and in principal adopted. Display dressings will be made progressively over 2 years within the allocated budget. Careers - reprint New DL brochures (envelope size) for BEc; BBusCom (Global); ENTER flyer; Double degree fliers. New template designs for notice shells will be made available. Department may develop other material using notice shells. Faculty Student Ambassadors: Faculty Student Ambassadors have been appointed in conjunction with Education Office to assist in: 1. Faculty wide – to share insight into student experience; to direct visitors to their area of inquiry and information sessions/presentations; maintenance of brochure supplies; and to assist with setup and pack up 2. For discipline areas – to share insights into student life. University/Campus marketing of Open Day: Feedback from Campus wide meetings: Focus group research was conducted to assess Y10, Y11 and Y12 student opinions about Monash Open Day. A formal report will be distributed when it becomes available Website and radio seen as important sources of information – will maximise within university/campus budget limits Central promotional plan and theme/ branding yet to be finalized. A brainstorming session was held where ideas for improvement were suggested: Promoting it as the ‘First Open Day of the year’ to careers coordinators (i.e. in the mail out to them in June which includes Open Day posters and flyers); Potential for ‘sticky-note’ advertising in The Age; BLOG on website – student to student interaction; Social media: Facebook or Twitter Open Day account; Keeping in contact with students who have attended/ signed up for Open Day throughout the year (we will be able to achieve this through the eNews direct mail system); Review Open Day program to highlight key areas of interest; Open Day decals on Monash University cars; and Careers Advisors Seminar in June – options for extra promotion.
