VANIER COLLEGE Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Centre OVERVIEW • • • • Vanier STEM Centre Student Design Competition Timeline Questions The STEM Centre STEM CENTRE: Library Renovation • Plans under way to modernize Vanier College’s aged Library within the next two years. • New Library space to include Vanier’s new STEM Centre, peer tutoring space, and seating for 670 students. STEM CENTRE: Math & Science Centre Change • Math & Science Centre (MSC) has traditionally focused on pre-University Science students and attracts over 200 unique visiting students per day. • With the renovations, the MSC will transform into a STEM Centre, a first among English CEGEPs. STEM CENTRE: Math & Science Centre Change • The STEM Centre will expand it’s focus to students in technology programs that have strong links to science and engineering. COMPETITION: New STEM Centre Website stem.vaniercollege.qc.ca • Inform the Vanier community about STEM • Promote the competition • Encourage student participation in the visioning process COMPETITION: Participants • Vanier College students from all academic programs. • Specifically, students in 3-year technology programs, and the Science Program will be encouraged to take part. COMPETITION: Guiding Questions Submitted proposals will provide answers to the following questions: • • • • • • How would you design/decorate the space? What kinds of furniture and equipment would you like to see for this space? How do you see students using the proposed space? How will your proposal impact Vanier College and the local community? Are there certain industry or academic partnerships that can be formed as a result of your idea for this space? What do you feel would be a good slogan or catchphrase for this space? COMPETITION: Prizes for Top Proposals Top rated proposals in each of the three STEM areas (Hackerspace, Think Tank, Study Hub) will be awarded.
