Woods, Baron Yan, Latrice Young, Eliana Yu, Alina Zayas, Agenda Date: Assigned to: Recommendations: Action: President Pro Tempore: Student Senate President: Student Body President: January 20th, 2016 Renner Winston Becca Wilmoth Mike Young Whereas, students from the community of underrepresented minorities on the Purdue campus have requested a more influential role for the Cultural Centers in deliberation within Senate, and Whereas, students from the Purdue Honors College have previously approached Senate regarding their unique perspectives not being a part of this body, and Whereas, students from the Purdue Residence Hall Association have previously approached Senate regarding increased ways to unite in discussion of policy and procedures of the University through the voice of this body, and Whereas, Senate has considered the needs of future Senate sessions and anticipates unknown contingencies not presently at the forefront of discussion and debate, and Whereas, as Senators we are called upon to “serve the needs of the student body and enhance the student experience at Purdue,” and Whereas, one of the primary methods to achieve the mission of Purdue Student Government is through “Encouraging initiatives that address the concerns of the student body and future prosperity of Purdue University and Purdue Student Government” , and Whereas, Senate recognizes that the direct participation of influential voices elevates the caliber of debate in addressing specific or immediate issues, and Whereas, Webster’s Dictionary defines Ad-Hoc as something “concerned with a particular end or purpose” and “formed or used for specific or immediate problems or needs”; Therefore, be it ENACTED that the Purdue Student Government Constitution be amended to replace all instances of “non-voting members” with “speaking members” Therefore, be it further ENACTED that the Purdue Student Government Constitution, Article II Section 1, Part B be amended to include a Subsection 3 which states: “3. Ad-Hoc Members a. The Student Senate may create Ad-Hoc Members through a 2/3 vote of the entire voting membership of the Student Senate with the same roles and responsibilities as Speaking Members. Such Members will be restricted to representing the segment of the undergraduate student body designated upon their creation and shall sit as Members of the Student Senate at all meetings. “ Therefore, be it further ENACTED that the Purdue Student Government Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Part C be amended to include a Subsection 4 which states: “4. Ad-Hoc Members a. Senate Ad-Hoc Members shall be elected or appointed by the segment of the undergraduate student body designated upon their creation. Unless terminated by the Student Senate by, Ad-Hoc seats shall be disbanded on the first of May. The Ad-Hoc seats can be dissolved by the Student Senate at their discretion by a majority vote.” Therefore, be it further ENACTED that the Purdue Student Government Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Part D Subsection 2 be amended to include a Part d: “d. Upon vacancy of any Ad-Hoc Seat, a new Ad-Hoc Member shall be elected or appointed by the respective segment of the undergraduate student body designated upon their creation.” ______________________ Student Body President ______________________ Student Senate President
