Curricular Area: Visual Arts Class Level: 5th/6th Lesson objectives: To enable the students to: Create a piece of Pop Art Learn about and research the history of the Pop Art movement through ScoilNet Pathways, Teacher sourced documentary, creation of a multiple choice quiz. Present a finished piece of art to their peers accompanied by a short explanatory video. Description of activities: This is a series of lessons around one topic (Pop Art) that moves the students through various elements of the Paint&Colour and the Drawing Strand of Visual Arts. Lesson 1: The class watch a short documentary on the work of Roy Lichtenstein. The children are encouraged to make notes throughout the documentary on facts they feel are important. This documentary could be watched on the IWB or on individual tablets with headphones or shared 1 between 2 using an earphone splitter. Link to doc: (c.50mins long) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Slg0QkE9kU Lesson 2: Class is split into 2 groups: Group 1: Creating a plan of their own piece of Pop Art using a variety of mediums and optional apps “Pop Art Effects for Pictures” or “PicsArt Photo Studio” Group 2: Using the notes they have made and having access to the doc on their tablets students make a multiple choice quiz on the topic using the app “Revision Quiz Maker” Lesson 3: Groups switch activity Lesson 4: Again class is split into 2 groups: Group 1: Using their plans created during lesson 2 students begin to create their finished pieces using their choice of medium. Students in this group photograph their work with their tablet to show the process. Group 2: Complete the quizzes created during lesson 2. Lesson 5: Groups switch Lesson 6: The students photograph their finished work and interview each other about their process. The students can then use the app “Explain Everything” or “Movie maker” to create a short presentation for the class/parallel class. Lesson 7: All students complete a mind map using the app “Mindomo” for teacher AOL.
