/background
Our partner organisations in Beijing will arrange business to business meetings based on
the profile of your company and your visit objectives. However, you may also wish to
commission further market information through the UKTI Overseas Market Introduction
Service (OMIS). This can include:





likelihood of success in the market and market entry strategies
business opportunities and identification of possible partners
advice on local conditions, including competitors, regulation and standards
advice on accessing and influencing decision makers
arrangements for a promotional event
The local experts will discuss, develop and agree a quote, and costs can range from a few
hundred pounds to several thousand, depending upon the complexity of the request.
Please indicate if you wish to commission an OMIS and if so, what you would like it to
cover. (Deadline for OMIS request is 5 weeks before the visit).

Market Visit Service Description
The Market Visit Service is a UK Trade & Investment service delivered by RTC North which provides businesses with the opportunity to visit new markets as part of
an organised group.
The market visit service supports trade development activity primarily for new/inexperienced Small & Medium Enterprises and those new to a particular market. It is
not aimed at experienced exporters who are already established In a particular market.
The Organiser
The Market Visit Service organiser is RTC North Ltd.
Financial Contribution
All UK-based businesses and organisations may participate in a Market Visit, but only eligible Small & Medium Enterprises* based in North East and North West
England and Yorkshire may qualify for a financial contribution towards their costs.
UK Universities, UK Government funded centres of higher or further learning and UK Government research establishments are also eligible for a financial contribution.
RTC North Ltd will advise companies on the details of the Market Visit package offered and their eligibility for a financial contribution towards their costs. The decision
as to whether a company is deemed eligible for a financial contribution rests with RTC North Ltd. The amount of financial contribution offered is determined by the
market to be visited and is confirmed by letter from the organiser confirming acceptance of the completed Application for financial assistance.
Market Visit Support is classed as a state aid and is therefore subject to EU regulations governing state aids. While the EU strongly regulates state aid to businesses
we have the option to exempt some aid under the EU’s De Minimis block exemption scheme. This permits no more than euro 200,000 in total to be received by an
enterprise in a 3 year period. You must therefore use the table at the end of this form to confirm that your business has not received more than that amount of state
aid in the 3 year period leading up to this application. You should use the table below to tell us about any state aid you have received over the relevant period and
include the grant for which you are currently applying in the table.
Please note that under the Government initiative to improve the transparency of how public funds are used all Market Visit Support payments (including the identity of
the recipient and the amount) will be published from 1 January 2011 (details of payments over £500 have been published since April 2010). By making an application
to participate in the Market Visit you agree that details of any payments made to your company can be published.
*Small & Medium Enterprises (SME)
RTC North Ltd and UK Trade & Investment adopt the European Union definition of an SME. RTC North Ltd can provide further details, but generally it refers to a
business which has fewer than 250 employees AND has an annual turnover not exceeding €50m OR an annual balance sheet total not exceeding €43m

Participation in the Market Visit is subject to the Applicant business meeting the terms and conditions listed below, the organiser reserves the right to withhold any or
all of the financial contribution offered or require part or full repayment of a grant already paid if any of the above conditions are not met or if the business is indebted
to any Government department.:

The participant will attend a pre-visit workshop to be given by the Market Visit leader 2-4 weeks prior to the Visit.
2.
If offered as part of the Market Visit Package, the participant will attend a ‘Welcome & introduction to the country’ meeting at the beginning of the Visit given
by the Commercial Staff at the British Embassy, Consulate or similar.
3.
The participants must not cause embarrassment to Her Majesty’s Government, the host country or any other participants in the group by their conduct during
the visit. If RTC North judge this is the case, the offending participant may be immediately excluded from the group for the rest of the visit, and any agreed
financial contribution withheld.
4.
The participant is required to provide feedback on the Market Visit within 4 weeks of return on a form provided by the organiser for this purpose.
5.
By completing this form I explicitly consent to the supply by RTC North Ltd of information provided by me to other parts of RTC North Ltd and/or UK Trade &
Investment.

Value of Assistance
Subject to funding, RTC North can provide support which represents a minimum direct consultancy of two days’ work to
the value of £1,000 excluding foreign and professional disbursements. In addition, eligible companies/institutions maybe
entitled to a travel intervention of up to £750. This work constitutes State aid and the figure quoted above should be used
in any future de minimis declarations.
