If I give you the Spanish, please write the English translation. To talk about activities • In this portion of the test, you will see various pictures of people doing hobbies. Write the activity in Spanish represented by each picture. • Leer revistas---to read magazines. • Bailar---to dance • Tocar la guitarra---to play the guitar • Hablar por teléfono---to talk on the phone • Usar la computadora---to use the computer. • escribir cuentos---to write stories How to describe people in Spanish • Remember, ʖCómo es? means What is he/she like? So you will be asked to describe someone by looking at pictures and then write complete sentences describing them. • Common descriptions of people… • Desordenado--- messy. • Artístico--- artistic • Gracioso---funny • Estudioso---studious (likes to study) • Deportista---sportsminded, likes to play sports. • Ordenado---organized • Examples--- Ella es ordenada.---She is organized. • Él es artístico----He is artistic. How to describe people (cont’d) • On the test you will see various pictures of people. You will be asked ʖCómo es el chico? Or ʖCómo es la chica? You will then write a sentence describing the person from the picture. For example, if there is a picture of a male student with his locker really messy, you would write….” Él es desordenado.”---He is messy. • BE CAREFUL---If it is a female being described, change it to “desordenada” to reflect the correct gender. EXCEPT WITH DEPORTISTA…this always end in –a whether it’s a male or female being described. Family tree • You will see a family tree with people in it. Then you will be asked questions like “Quién es la madre de Luisa?”---Who is Luisa’s mother? • You will then look at the family tree and write the name of Luisa’s mother. Change the o to ue in all cases except the NOSOTROS form. • For example---- I help----yo ayudo • She sleeps----Ella duerme The present progressive tense. • Use “Estoy”—(I am) along to say that you are doing something right now. • For –ar verbs, take off the last two letters (-ar) and add –ando.
