Operating Modes
The controller can be operated in five different operating modes, which are as
follows:
Ki (off) - “switched-off “state - the system is connected, but it does not heat the
particular room (independently of the measured temperature).
Fagy (frost)- antifreeze state - the system keeps the specified room at 7°C (the
temperature is set to 7°C automatically).
Kézi (manual)-manual setting - the controller adjusts the temperature to the value
having been set manually. In this operating mode, the device changes
over automatically if the temperature has been modified in “Off” or
“Frost” operating modes.
Auto - automatic control - for time. In this operating mode, the controller takes the
set temperature into accounts until the timer reaches the next step.
Norm-normal - automatic control. The device runs according to the pre-set time
schedule.
5
Daily Use
In its standby state, the device displays the name of the room, the temperature
measured there, the day of the week and the time, the set (control) temperature,
and the operating mode. The display shows the following details:
measured temperature
room name
exact time
the day of the week
Szobanév 28° Ked
12:26 28° Kézi *
set temperature
day/night
operating mode
You can select the room with and ► buttons. When shifting, the state of the
selected room appears, i.e. the measured temperature, the set (desired)
temperature and the operating mode. The day/night operating mode as well as
the time along with the day of the week are common for each room.
-4-
Suntherm
Controller Operating Instruction
(E5)
The control temperature of the particular rooms can be modified by means of
the buttons  and . Thus you can modify the heating condition any time
according to your demands.
5.1 Operating Modes
The different operating modes facilitate the easy use of the device. In the case
of setting “Kézi” (manual) and “Fagy” (frost) modes, the device simply runs with one
set value. In order to simplify the operation, the device switches from “Ki” (off) and
“Fagy”(frost) operating modes to “Kézi” (manual) operating mode automatically, if
the control temperature of the particular room has been changed over (by the
buttons  or ▼).
The individual operating modes can be selected by the OK button.
5.1.1
“Ki” (off) operating mode
The device switches off the heating in the appointed room. The indicated control
temperature has no effect on the control.
Exit: Pushing OK button, the device switches to “Fagy” (frost) operating mode or
automatically to “Kézi” (manual) operating mode if the control temperature is
modified by or  buttons.
5.1.2
“Fagy" (frost) mode
In this case the heating only enables to prevent frost damage. If this operating
mode is applied, the control temperature is automatically set to 7°C.
Exit: Pushing OK button, the device switches to “Kézi” (manual) operating mode
or automatically to “Kézi” (manual) mode if the control temperature is modified by 
or ▼ buttons.
5.1.3
“Manual" operating mode
The device applies the set value (set by  or ▼ buttons) in the specified room.
If DEL button is pressed, the device returns to the “Fagy” (frost) mode. Use “OK”
button to shift to the “Auto” mode.
5.1.4
“Auto" operating mode
It realises an automatic control on the basis of the weekly program. It differs
from the “Norm” mode from the aspect that you can modify the value of the preprogrammed temperature here (refer to “Norm” operating mode).
-5-
Suntherm
Controller Operating Instruction
(E5)
5.1.5 “Norm” - Normal Operating Mode
Automatic temperature control on the basis of a weekly schedule (weekly
program). The controller maintains the pre-set temperatures at the pre-set times in
the individual rooms (refer to weekly programming). When changing over the
individual values manually, the device switches to “Auto” mode. Both operating
modes can also be set by OK button. You can return from the “Auto” mode to the
“Norm” mode by pressing “DEL” button.
6
Weekly Programming
The most advanced feature of the SUNTHERM controller is that the
temperatures can be pre-defined for all rooms for any part of the day. This
“program” can be compiled for all days of the week, with various set values for each
day, if necessary.
You can specify four different temperatures for each room, and each day of the
week can be divided into maximum four parts, assigning any of the temperature
values to them, for each room separately.
6.1 Plan your weekly program
For the weekly program, prepare a brief table to facilitate the entering of the
data into the controller.
The first table includes the required temperatures:
Room No./Name:
1
2
3
Temperature 1
Temperature 2
Temperature 3
Temperature 4
-6-
4
5
6
7
8
Suntherm
Controller Operating Instruction
(E5)
If less than four temperatures are to be specified for a single room, you can enter
any value for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th positions.
In the next step, a brief table must be prepared for each room (a pattern for this can
be found at the end of this brochure):
Day
Mon
Tue
Wed
Thu
Fri
Sat
Sun
Time 1
Time 2
Time 3
Time 4
The times must be entered in such a way that the temperature defined by a number
in the previous table will be valid until the next time. Prepare this table for each
room.
6.2 Entering the weekly program
It is very easy to enter the program, but the data must be entered for all of the
rooms. The tables prepared before helps the programming; by using these tables,
programming is as easy as pie!
6.2.1 Specifying the temperature
Enter the menu and choose “Heti program” (“weekly program”) menu item using
OK button. The following display is shown:
Szobanév (room name)1=21
2=22 3=23 4=24
The underscore is the “cursor” that show which value is actually set. 1=21 means
that temperature 1 in the specified room has actually been set to 21°C. Of
course, the actually displayed values might deviate from this figure, depending on
the value you last set.
-7-
Suntherm
Controller Operating Instruction
(E5)
For the first time, the temperatures may take wrong values, since these
values are not set in the factory. Therefore it is recommended to set a reasonable
figure for all the positions, even if such values are not used later on. Failure to do so
will not damage the device, but non-expected surprises (e.g. “activation” by any
member of the family of a value set to 81 °C) may be prevented by this.
So, enter the first four temperatures using the first table. These values can be
adjusted by  and  buttons, and ► and  buttons can be used to shift from one
temperature to the other.
Temperature-setting for the first room can be closed by OK button, then you can
enter the settings for the second room.
If you change your mind, you can exit from the setting by using MENU or DEL
buttons, however the values having been entered will be stored.
You can copy the setting for the preceding room by pushing */( button. The copied
setting appears on the display immediately. You can save time in this way, since, in
general, most of the rooms in the flat can be set to the same value.
6.2.2 Entering the Time Schedule
Use the second table for entering the time schedule, for each room and for each
day of the week. For this, follow the steps of the temperature programming
described above (for all the rooms). If modifying the program entered earlier, it is
enough to push OK button; the values having been entered will not change.
When entering the time schedule, the following display picture appears:
Szobanév (room name)
1. 12:50 T=2 B
Hét (week)
In this case, 1 is the serial number for the four times (in this case the first one), then
12:50 shows the time indicated by the “cursor”. 1 = 2 shows that the second
temperature value will be applied after this time, and B shows that this part of the
program has been switched on. This program can be entered to Hétfő (Monday).
-8-
Suntherm
Controller Operating Instruction
(E5)
First set the time recorded in the table earlier using  and  buttons (the times can
be entered with 10-minute accuracy). Similarly to the preceding settings, the digits
change rapidly when the buttons are kept pushed, thus the setting can be
performed quickly.
You can go to the adjustment of the temperature serial number by ► button (or, if
you have changed your mind, you can return by button).
Use the same *button for setting the serial number of the temperature as in case
of the time, then the letter “B” (on) can be changed to the letter K (“off”), if
necessary. In the latter case, this step of the program can be switched off without
losing any of the values entered, which could deactivate the time and the
temperature.
After pushing OK button, you can shift to the program for Tuesday (kedd), then
to the other days of the week one after the other.
After finishing the programming for this room, you can continue with the second
room, etc.
When modifying only certain details or if there are less than 8 rooms, you can
exit from the programming by pushing MENU or DEL buttons.
6.3
Start of Weekly Program
The programmed heating starts immediately with the actually set temperature,
when you change to the “Norm” mode using OK button after selecting a room. The
program stops as soon as any of the manual operating modes (Off, Frost, Manual)
has been selected.
6.4
Modification of the Weekly Program
Although the heating has been planned well, it may happen that you would like to
change the set temperature temporarily. It is not necessary to rewrite the whole
program, it is sufficient to change over the control temperature manually (using  or
▼ buttons). Then the control of the device follows the set value until the next set
time; the controller shows this state through changing to “Auto” mode instead of
“norm” mode. This modification can be done room by room, independently of the
other rooms (e.g. when somebody wants to have a bath, so the temperature in the
bathroom should be some degrees higher for some time). When reaching the next
programmed time, the device will returns to “Norm” mode automatically (in the room
concerned).

(E5)
Night /day switchover
All the rooms can be switched over simultaneously to night mode by */( button.
The controller sets a 3° lower degree compared to the set temperature. This state is
indicated by the sign * (day) or ( (night) at the corner of the display.
The changeover affects all the rooms and operating modes.
8
Battery Replacement
The internal crystal-controlled clock installed into the device continues to
measure the time even if the line voltage is interrupted. Although there is no display
in this case, the internal clock is supplied from an internal button-cell battery located
in the device. Its type CR2032 The capacity of this battery is sufficient to operate
the clock for one year, if the line voltage is switched off. Since such button-cell
batteries tend to run out gradually even if they are not operated, in the case of
frequent power failures, this battery should be replaced every year, otherwise it is
recommended to replace it at least every three years.
This battery is located inside the device therefore replace it with increased
carefulness or get it replaced by a technician.
When replacing the battery the following steps are to be followed:
1
Disconnect the power of the heating system
2 The external medial part of the device can be removed from the bottom plate
mounted onto the wall by pushing carefully (about 1 mm down) the 4 pieces
of plastic clips.
Warning! While doing so, pay special attention to the safety of the multi-core cable
connecting the upper and the lower parts.
3 The battery holder can be found at the bottom of the lower part. The old
battery can easily be removed by slightly lifting the spring. The new battery
must be clean and of the specified type, and must be put into its place with
its positive end outwards (in accordance with the sign on the spring).
Even the slightest damage on the printed circuit board might cause the failure of the
device!
4  After replacing the terminal, push the upper part of the controller back onto
the lower part until the plastic clips go into their places, so that the upper part
can take the same position as before the battery replacement.
