Salary:
Band 4 - $53,552 – $57,272 pa
Payment Details:
Salary is paid on a fortnightly basis into a nominated bank
account by direct bank deposit.
Superannuation:
In addition to the above salary, Council will contribute 9.5% of
salary to Vision Super or another complying superannuation
fund as nominated by the employee if earnings are in excess of
$450 per month. Please note all payments to Superannuation
funds other than Vision Super will be made via a
Superannuation Clearing House.
Qualifying Period:
This position will be subjected to a six (6) month qualifying
period.
Annual Leave:
Four (4) weeks annual leave per annum (pro-rata)
Other Leave:
Other leave entitlements are listed in the Indigo Shire Council
Enterprise Agreement 2012-14.

POSITION OBJECTIVE



To be part of Indigo Shire Council’s Operations Team that delivers maintenance and
construction services for roads and associated infrastructure including parks and gardens,
recreational reserves and open space.
To effectively and efficiently perform the duties associated with the operation and
maintenance of heavy construction plant and equipment.
For specific small civil projects assist with the co-ordination of on-site works to current
standards and designs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS








Operate heavy plant and equipment such as trucks, backhoes, skid steers and loaders safely
and competently.
Operate minor plant and equipment such as ride on mowers, chainsaws, hand mowers, line
trimmers and chemical spray units safely and competently.
Carry out repair works to roads and associated infrastructure, including construction and
maintenance activities such as earthworks, excavations, cleaning of drainage pits, pipes and
streets, grass slashing, weed spraying, concreting, tree pruning and removal, patching
roads.
Install and maintain street signs and road furniture.
Adhere strictly to safe work practices and be aware of and implement OH&S requirements.
Lift heavy articles within OH&S and general safety policies and manual handling guidelines.
Operate and maintain allocated plant safely and effectively including performing daily plant
checks, identifying and correcting defects where possible.
Carry out regular routine maintenance of allocated plant and equipment in accordance with
manufactures recommendations or as directed and report regularly to supervisor on plant
condition.

Ensure that all road-works signage code of practice and regulations are observed in the
work zones.
Participate in afterhours call out duties.
Carry out other duties as directed.

1. Sound knowledge and demonstrated competency in operating trucks and heavy
construction plant as listed above.
2. Relevant technical skills in Civil Construction including reading, understanding and
interpreting construction plans, standard drawings and instructions.
3. Ability to lead and work as a team member.
4. Be physically able to complete all facets of civil construction and maintenance work
including a physical functionally assessment.
