The Odyssey Project Points 100 Due Date: All Projects (unless otherwise stated) are due the Monday after we finish the text. Work on the projects as we read. If your project is worth less than 100 pts, then you will have to complete more than one. Options: 1. The Odyssey Board Game 50 Points (1-2 persons) A. Include 50 questions and answers from the book. Use any information from page 640-end of the unit. B. 4-6 players can play the game C. Include pictures from all of Odysseus’s adventures D. Include rules, a chance for a winner, pieces, and dice. They should have an Odyssey theme and everything that would normally come with a board game. E. The game must have some sort of challenge/consequences for the players. F. PowerPoint Presentation The Modern Hero 50 Points (1-2 persons) Identify 5 other heroes in film/television/books/comics Discuss what makes each character a hero based on the information given in class. The presentation should include the following: A picture of the character, biographical/historical information about the character, and reasons why your character is considered a hero (Evidence/Commentary/Be Specific about why your character is a hero). The Odyssey The Director’s Cut: 100 Points (4 groups of 5) With a group, create a video “remake” of one of the stories from The Odyssey that we read in class. The mini-movie must have a beginning, middle, and end. Include dialogue, a plot diagram, and a theme chart. The video must be at least 5 minutes. Each cast member will need to include the following: A. Each person will complete a plot diagram of the scene B. Each person will have to complete a Character’s Trait Chart for his/her character C. Each person will have to complete a Theme Chart for the scene D. Keep it G rated E. Your group will present the film to the class F. Each person will include a MLA works cited page G. Each person must have his/her own write up about the significance of the scene: What does Odysseus learn, how would you characterize him, what is the theme? Evidence/Commentary. MLA H. Draw a picture that represents the story B. One quotation from the story C. Poster size D. On a separate sheet of paper you must explain why you chose the picture, what it means (symbolizes) and explain the significance (commentary) of the quotation (5-6 sentences) MLA E. You will present these to the class F. Work Cited page MLA 5. Travel Brochure 100 Points: (1-2 persons) You are the owner of Odyssey Travel Agency, and the company is about to go bankrupt. There is one last travel season to turn the company around. Create a travel brochure that promotes each of Odysseus's stops (Only the ones we read in class). Be sure to include the following: A. A picture of each stop B. Places to see C. Activities D. Shopping E. Historic Significance: Include events, people involved, and a quote from the story. Include why each stop is important to Odysseus. F. The brochure can be set up as a cruise guide with a list of excursions at each stop. Also include time, cost, and what is included. G. Odysseus’s Map 50 pts (1-2 persons) A. Create a map of Odysseus’s Journey. Include only the stops discussed or read about in class. You need to have the following: B. All the stops (11?) C. Illustrations of each stop D. Include names for all the following: Landmarks/Locations/Bodies of Water/Landscape E. Neat and Colorful F. Odysseus’s Postcards 20 pts each: (1 person) Draw and write five postcards Odysseus could have written to his family at home while on his twenty year journey. Pictures must be colored or well-shaded.
