Former felons are repeatedly forced to re-live their conviction through an unfair and negative stereotype that not only denies them a fair chance for employment, but often makes it impossible to obtain an interview with an employer. Systemic profiling in the building trades has been built into the construction industry UnionFacts.com has stated that since 2000, there have been over 4,200 complaints filed against unions for racial discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission. In some cities, it is a bigger problem than in others.
