Over the course of this semester, you will gain general knowledge and the practical skill of working with computer technology. You will learn how to use a computer through completing various assignments and fun projects which will teach you word processing, presentation design, keyboarding (or typing), internet usage, internet safety, coding, internet-based learning community access, international pen pals, and web page creation. Standards: This course will utilize the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) http://www.corestandards.org and the International Society of Technology in Education’s National Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NET’s) www.iste.org/nets to guide instruction embedded with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) www.ibo.org Technology Design requirements. Suggested Materials: Notebook, paper, pencil, 4 GB (minimum) Flash Drive (Only 1 Flash Drive is recommended for all Prepa Tec classes.) Software provided by Prepa Tec and utilized in this course: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Chrome, Edmodo, ePals, Code.org, Google, Dictionary.com, Weebly.com, and AlfaTyping.com (Many other options are available in Technology Research Project Task #5 Self Choice Creation Option such as Prezi, Scratch, Movie Maker, and more.) Assessment Policy: Your grade is calculated as a percentage of total points possible, using the following scale: A: 90-100% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F: 59% and below Grading Policy: The distribution of points by content will be approximately: Homework = 5% Classwork = 15% Quizzes = 20% Projects, Presentation Based Assessments, Test Assessments = 60% Semester Two Timeline: Week #1: Welcome, Syllabus, Essential Agreements, Learning Lab Policies, Coding Weeks #2-4: Technology Research Project Task #2 - Concept Bubble Maps, Edmodo Week #5: ePals E-mail Accounts, Pen Pal Community, Coding Keyboarding Weeks 6-9: Technology Research Project Task #3 - MS Word Expository Essays, Edmodo Week #10: Coding, Keyboarding, Review Midterm Quiz Weeks #11-14: Technology Research Project Task #4 - MS PowerPoints with Presentations Weeks #15-17: Technology Research Project Task #5 - Self Choice Creation Option Weeks #18-19: Webpage Building, Weebly.com Week #20: Webpage Cumulative Evaluation & Final Exam *Mr. King reserves the right to alter this course timeline if necessary. Homework: Homework will be assigned and posted on the www.PrepaTec.org website. Homework is most often the completion of classwork. Late Work Policy: Late work receives partial credit equal to minus 10% of the points for that assignment for each day that it is late. Work during Absence: If you are absent when an assignment is given or due, you will have the number of days you are absent to make it up. You are responsible to complete all work, projects and quizzes assigned when you are absent even if your absence is excused. I am looking forward to a great semester!
