Traits of a health care professional, health care career pathways, business etiquette, résumé
building, references, leadership and teamwork, use of social media, cell phones, and email.
3 weeks
Infection Control and Workplace Safety
Bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease and chain of infection, handwashing and PPE, fire
and radiation safety, body mechanics and ergonomics, disaster and hazard communications.
4 weeks
Medical Terminology
Prefixes, suffixes, root words, abbreviations combined to interpret the medical chart.
3 weeks
Ethics and Legalities
Legal responsibilities, torts, contracts, health care records, HIPAA, advance directives, laws,
ethical principles, patient’s rights, cultural-social-ethnic diversity and respectfulness.
5 weeks
Patient Assessment Technical Skills
Vital signs, height, weight, pain assessment, patient positioning, medical math and
conversions, patient communication skills and charting.
7 weeks
Anatomy and Physiology
Body Systems, pathology, medical terminology, diagramming/labeling.
3 weeks
Wellness
Nutrition and therapeutic diets, sleep, exercise, check-ups, risk factors for disease.
4 weeks
Emergency Procedures
First aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (certification co-pay approximately $10)

Facilities: government agencies, private, public, non-profit
Consumer responsibilities & methods of payment, insurance, managed care
