MEREDITH VIDEO STUDIOS LAUNCHES “DIGS” CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE
Eight Lifestyle Shows to Debut as Part of YouTube’s “Original Channels” Content Initiative
NEW YORK, NY (April 2, 2012) – Meredith Corporation (NYSE:MDP; www.meredith.com)
announced today that Meredith Video Studios (MVS), its original programming development
and production business, has launched DIGS, a lifestyle channel dedicated to home and garden
with an attitude, on YouTube.
Last fall, YouTube announced the launch of “original channels” approximately one hundred new
channels created by YouTube and a variety of partners including MVS, giving content creators a
new platform to connect with a diverse global audience of more than 800 million viewers
through niche programming.
“As a media company with a robust video portfolio and broad reach, we are in a unique position
to create original, high quality content that fills an important, and relatively untapped space,”
says Paul Karpowicz, President of Meredith Local Media Group. “DIGS is a twist on the content
that Meredith is known for; a fresh style of ‘info-tainment’ that we believe consumers will love.”
The DIGS channel (www.youtube.com/digs) features eight original series developed and
produced by MVS – covering topics from crafting and entertaining to gardening and home
improvement – starring talent from the comedy world to the indie music scene.
“Lifestyle channels are rapidly growing on YouTube, with a passionate audience looking for the
latest trends and inspiration. We’re excited to see more high-quality original programming from
top media companies like Meredith coming to YouTube to give this audience even more reasons
to keep watching,” said Jamie Byrne, Head of Original Programming, Entertainment, YouTube.
Today DIGS launches with short introductory videos and a preview sizzle video, with original
episodes rolling out each week. The channel will be supported by a community building and
marketing campaign across multiple social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and
others.
With a fresh slate of shows about designing and enjoying your space, DIGS brings tongue-incheek to home and garden. The shows are:
