Wednesday: SSR and Dialectic Journaling Thursday & Friday: Writing in the composition books: “How important are words? Should we choose them carefully when we speak or write? Explain your answer and bring an example illustrating the importance of words.” WHOLE GROUP Monday & Tuesday: Introduction of the elements of poetry Reading and discussing a poem on pg. 44 Wednesday: Vocabulary Quiz. Thursday & Friday: Whole class reading and discussion of the poem “Sarah Cylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage out” DIRECT INTRUCTION Monday & Tuesday: Introduce the elements of poetry (ppt) Wednesday: Instructions and dictation for the vocabulary quiz Thursday & Friday: Continue the instruction on elements of poetry; structure and types of poems. Introduce hyperboly The teacher will perform the 1st read of the poem “Sarah Cylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage out” COLLABORATIVE STATION Monday & Tuesday: In table groups, students will reread the poem and identify 3 poetic elements, explain them, ad quote lines that fit, and they will present it to the whole class. Wednesday: n/a Thursday & Friday: Students will reread and analyze the poem with partners and will complete the questions on the poem INDEPENDENT STATION Monday & Tuesday: Writing in the composition books Students will take notes during the ppt Students will read and analyze the poem “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” on Actively Learn.
