Physical Education 2015-2016 The School of Arts and Enterprise Mr. Carri Rm. 108 Email: Scarri@thesae.k12.ca.us Course Description: The School of Arts and Enterprise Physical Education courses will incorporate the development of the 5 components of physical fitness; muscle strength, muscle endurance, aerobic capacity, flexibility, body composition. In addition, Psychomotor, Cognitive, Affective Domains will be emphasized through positive sportsmanship and team building activities. A person who is physically educated has learned skills necessary to perform in a variety of physical activities, is physically fit, and participates regularly in physical activities. This person knows the benefits from being involved in a daily physical life style and values all physical activity and its contributions to improving good health. Areas we will cover: Effects of physical activity upon dynamic health Mechanics of body movement Aquatics (Can be dry swimming/safety) Gymnastics and tumbling Individual and dual sports Rhythms and dance Team sports Combatives Course Requirements: Active participation in the student’s own physical education uniform, three ring notebook, report assignments, learning sheets, and learning logs. Assessment Areas – Psychomotor, Cognitive, and Affective Domains, Homework, Various Tests and Quizzes, Class Work, Checklists, and Fitness Test Log Sheets. Required- (special circumstances considered on an individual basis) T-shirts and shorts: clothing should not restrict movement. Shoes: tennis shoes- rubber soles (NO boots, slippers or sandals) Socks should be worn Optional- Students are allowed to wear sweats as long as they meet the criteria below Cotton sweat material only, Sweat tops, Sweat bottoms NO No rings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, belly, tongue or lip piercings. The only acceptable earrings are small studs. Physical Education Absence Make-up Assignment/ non-participation in class Policy Every absence/non-participation during class a student will read an article and write a handwritten essay about the article, what you learned , and how it affects you. The essay should be typed and turned in by hard copy or email with bibliography. Up to three essays can be turned in for make-up work. The other missed time/grades will be made-up during tutoring. 1 absence= 1 page paper typed, 12 point font, Times New Roman, 1 inch margins, double spaced on a sports or health related article. -You have 2 weeks from the time you were absent/ non-participation to hand the paper in. For example: if you were absent on Monday Aug 1, then the paper needs to be turned in to the teacher by Monday Aug 14- it can be turned in prior to two weeks, but the maximum time is 14 days. - You need to have a bibliography and/or cite your paper- turn it in with your paper. Your paper will not be accepted without the bibliography attached, plagiarism will be turned in to the front off with a dropped F. Topics: you can choose the topic to write about as long as it pertains to one of the following: Health, Physical Education, Sports, Nutrition, Exercise, Diseases, Activity, Heart Disease, Obesity, or Athlete pertaining to unit.
