Advanced Speech Communication Non-Profit Group Speech Summer 2010 ASC-Ms. Melia Non-Profit Marketing Group Speech Summer 2010 Project Description: There are too many homeless people in Hawai`i. Too many Hawaiian families are being affected by drugs. Hawaiians have such a short life expectancy. The Hawaiian people cannot ban together. If you have had any of these thoughts before, here is your chance to engage in helping to create solutions to social issues plaguing our community today. Essential Project Questions: You should show me the answers to all of these questions and then describe them to me in your group speech. 1. Is it important to be a contributor to your community? Why or why not? 2. How will you plan to reach out to your Hawaiian community or your community at large in a meaningful way? 3. What product or service would best meet your community’s needs? 4. Why should the community partake in your services as opposed to other services in the community? 5. How will you persuade notable people to fund your non-profit? Group Goals: 1. Work together as a team to create a non-profit organization that addresses a specific problem and a specific need in our community. 2. Investigate and research various non-profit organizations already in existence in our community to gain an awareness about non-profits’ purposes, services, and methods of branding. 3. Create a group marketing plan to accompany your group’s presentation. 4. Build leadership, teamwork, creative thinking, and empathy in each group member collaboratively. 5. Compete with other groups for funding for your non-profit company. Individual Objectives: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Conduct interviews to gain specific awareness about a community’s needs. Create a specific aspect of your group’s marketing plan to aid in the branding of your non-profit company. Gain confidence in public speaking by speaking about a specific section of your group’s presentation. Gain leadership, teamwork, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills by heading up an aspect of your company’s marketing plan. Explore how technology can aid in the branding and marketing of your non-profit organization. 2 ASC-Ms. Melia Non-Profit Marketing Group Speech Summer 2010 Group Project Guidelines: (In groups of 4-5 only) 1. Research a specific community’s needs through surveying and interviewing its members. 2. Create a non-profit company and mission statement designed to provide a product or service to fill your chosen community’s need. 3. Provide adequate support for your product/service in the form of the six different types of support. A minimum of three different types of support are required! a. Fact d. Comparison b. Example e. Narrative c. Testimonial f. Statistic 4. Brand your non-profit company with a specific Marketing Plan consisting of the following original products: a. An original company name b. An original logo and slogan c. Original Print Media including: i. Business Letterhead ii. Brochure exhibiting your services and any contact information iii. 11”x17” Poster exhibiting your brand, services, and contact information d. Original Multimedia Advertising including: i. 15 second video commercial ii. 30 second radio commercial iii. 4 page website iv. Tips for your Multimedia projects: You may use other people outside of your group for interview or testimony. Each product should not only explain, but sell your product/service as well. Video equipment is available through Mrs. Hara – forms must be filled out…see Blackboard. Both TV and Radio commercials should include your logo, slogan, jingle. The website should contain all of your original products. All products should be in good taste and appropriate for your audience. 5. Provide an engaging and compelling 12-15 minute group presentation of your non-profit company and compete for funding for your company against other non-profit groups. 3 ASC-Ms. Melia Non-Profit Marketing Group Speech Summer 2010 Group Presentation Guidelines: Please adhere to the following guidelines when presenting: 1. Each speaker must speak for at least 2 minutes. 2. Everyone should speak evenly and this should be considered a Group Presentation. 3. Because it is important to present cohesively, your group should dress the part. 4. All speakers should have a polished delivery. 5. The goal of presenting your presentation is to win over the judges for funding. Technology Tips to Consider: Good Print Media includes the following: 1. Headline: lettering, slogan, or saying that gets the readers’ attention, arouses their interest, and leads them to read the rest of the ad. 2. Copy: selling message. 3. Illustration: photograph or drawing used on the ad. 4. Signature: logo or the distinctive identification symbol for a business. Good Multimedia Products include the following characteristics: 1. A well-prepared concept using a well thought through storyboard. 2. Adequate technology hardware and software knowledge to maximize interesting effects. 3. Great use of the Rule of Thirds, lighting, sound, and composition for images and video. 4. Meticulous attention to detail in the editing process. 5. Proper sharing capabilities for viewing. 4 ASC-Ms. Melia Non-Profit Marketing Group Speech Summer 2010 Optional Speech Outline and Speaker Guidelines: Although loosely suggested prompts are listed below by speaker order, please feel free to be creative with your presentation. 1. First Speaker: Speak through the Whole Introduction. a. Use a strong Attention Getter. b. Introduce your group members and your company. c. Discuss your philosophy when creating your non-profit company. d. Describe your community and their needs. e. Present a strong link and thesis statement. f. Describe how you discovered your community’s needs. g. Preview the rest of the speech and transition to the next speaker. 2. Second Speaker: Speak through the whole first and second main points. a. Delineate the logo and discuss how you came up with it. b. Delineate and showcase the features of all of your Print Media including your group’s: i. Business Letterhead ii. Brochure iii. Poster c. Explain how each of these items will help to market your company. d. Transition to the next speaker 3. Third Speaker: Speak on the whole third point and display each product while doing so. a. Delineate and showcase the radio commercial. b. Discuss on which radio station your group will be showing the ad and what time it will be playing. c. Discuss and showcase the TV commercial as well. d. Discuss on which TV stations your group’s commercial will run, at what time will the ad run, and why have you chosen those stations and times. e. Explain the relationship between the Print and Multimedia Ads. f. Transition to the next speaker. 4. Fourth Speaker: Wrap up with the conclusion. a. Delineate and showcase the website. b. Summarize how your group plans on providing an essential service to the community. c. Explain how your services differ from others’ services? d. Explain why the community should partake in your services as opposed to other services in the community? e.
