Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Career and Technical Education
It is necessary for students working with the computers in the Business/ Marketing Department
Labs at American Fork High School to sign an acceptable use agreement concerning the use of
the computers and printers. Students will not be allowed to use Business/Marketing Lab
equipment until the required signatures of both the student and guardian are returned to the
instructor. If this form and District Agreement is not signed and returned within three class
periods (____________) the student will be transferred out of the class.
1.
The use of an individual account is considered to be a privilege and is permitted for one
semester at a time provided students:
a.
Read and agree to follow all guidelines
b.
Obtain a guardian’s signature on the application form
c.
Sign the application form as proof of acceptance
2.
All student accounts will be issued by the American Fork Business/Marketing
Department teachers.
3.
Students may use only assigned district approved network accounts. All external
storage media (i.e., jump drives, audio CD’s, MP3 players, disks, cloud storage, etc.) will
NOT be allowed in the Business/Marketing computer labs. All non-permitted outside
media will be confiscated. The use of the computers and printers are for Business/
Marketing classes only. You may not use the facilities for other classes.
4.
Any use of the computer facilities for illegal or unethical activities will result in the
student’s immediate removal from the classroom. This includes: the downloading of file
sharing software such as Kazaa, Morpheus, WinMx, BearShare, Lime Wire, I Tunes,
Rhapsody, etc.) or the downloading or use of any software that uses peer to peer
technology that connects to networks such as Gnutella, Fast Track, etc..
a.
Copying computer software, music, videos, games, or any copyrighted material.
onto or off of the network.
b.
Accessing, using, destroying, altering, or damaging resources, properties, or
facilities without authorization.
Violations of the above will constitute an immediate cancellation of the student account
and the student will be transferred out of the class. These items are a violation of district,
state, and federal laws or guidelines and may result in civil and/or criminal penalties for
your student.
5.
Students will not go into any unauthorized software. Authorized software is software
used in the class curriculum or software that a teacher has given permission to use.
Students may not put unauthorized information (i.e. programs, instant messages) onto
the network. Violation of any of these rules will result in a project assigned by the
teacher to be completed by the due date given by the instructor. Failure to complete the
project by the due date will result in a full grade drop.
2015-2016 School Year
6.
All students that will be using the Internet in their classwork must have a signed district
agreement on file with the district or their business/marketing teacher. This agreement
must have all required signatures before students will be assigned a computer account
by the district. If a student hasn’t already been issued a district computer account,
please sign and turn in the required form. Please note that this process may take some
time and the student may fall behind in class as a result.
7.
Parents/Guardians should understand and agree that if students are NOT allowed to use
the Internet within their business/marketing curriculum, and access it anyway, there is no
liability on the part of the instructor. The Business/ Marketing Department takes this
issue very seriously and tries to monitor student access to the Internet as much as
possible. Nevertheless, it is NOT possible or feasible for us to be able to monitor all
students at all times.
8.
Students will not go into any unauthorized software including games, personal e-mail or
Skyward. Students who access the Internet (including Skyward or personal e-mail
accounts) when it is not part of their course work will be immediately dropped from the
class and NO credit will be given for the course.
9.
Students that use the Internet inappropriately (when it is allowed as part of their course
work) will incur the following consequences:
a.
Students who access inappropriate or illegal sites on the Internet will be
immediately removed from their business/marketing course. Please refer to the
district Internet policy for what is deemed to be an inappropriate site.
b.
Students who "surf the net" and access sites that are not part of their course
work (including Skyward, personal e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites
such as Face Book, Twitter, etc.) will be assigned a project on a related topic.
Failure to complete the project by the due date given by the instructor will result
in a full grade drop. Please be advised that teachers will be checking computers
in the business/marketing labs for sites that have been accessed on the Internet.
10.
Students will not deface, vandalize, or write on lab equipment. They also will not play
with the computer console. If this is done, the student will be assessed the replacement
cost or be fined for the repairs. Equipment breakdown from everyday use should be
reported immediately and no charge will be assessed. Students who willfully damage
equipment will replace the equipment. Students who damage any part of the network or
software will be removed from the class.
11.
Students are personally responsible for all activities on their user account or computer
system and may be subjected to disciplinary actions and/or loss of privileges for misuse
of computers under their control even if they are not personally engaged in by the
person controlling the computer and/or system. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR
PASSWORD OR YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION!
12.
Students will not make any changes to the desktop i.e. wallpaper, colors, shortcuts,
patterns, etc. Any alteration to the desktop will result in:
a.
A fine to the student for the time necessary to reinstate the computer to its
original settings. The charge will be a minimum charge of $5 or an hourly rate for
the system administrator’s time necessary to make changes (whichever is
greater).
2015-2016 School Year
13.
Classroom printers, paper and other supplies are for assignments only. Nothing
personal is to be printed. If this rule is violated, students will be fined for the cost of the
material. Minimum charge is $1.
14.
Any misuse of software for dishonest purposes will result in the student being given a 0
(zero) for the work and the possibility of being transferred out of her/his business class.
15.
Using AFHS Business/Marketing Department computers to send fraudulent, harassing,
obscene, threatening, or unlawful messages is prohibited. Violation of this policy will
mean immediate removal from the classroom.
18.
The AFHS Business/Marketing Dept. has a hand-held communications device policy. A
copy is included in the disclosure document. Students and guardians need to be aware
of and abide by this policy.
19.
All students will be required to abide by the district and American Fork High School
Business/Marketing Department Acceptable Use Policy guidelines. We encourage all
parents to review these guidelines.
