Elements of Design: Illustrating Color Schemes
1. Go to polyvore.com and create an account and login. (BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION!)
2. At the top of the page choose “CREATE” and then click on “SET”.
3. You are going to create 7 different sets – one for each of the color schemes we have learned about.
 Monochromatic
 Analogous
 Complimentary
 Split-complementary
 Triadic
 Neutral
 Accented neutral
4. Each color scheme needs to be in a different area of a home: master bedroom, child’s bedroom, kitchen,
etc.
5. On the right hand side of the page choose “HOME”.
6. Choose “TEXT”. Choose a font style and click “ADD TO SET”.
7. Your text box will say “I Love Polyvore”. Click on the box and then look at the top of your page.
Go here and type.
8. Name your set according to the name of the room and the color scheme you are using. Example:
“Neutral Master Bedroom”.
9. The set for your room should include at least 5 items that would be found in each room. Items can include:
furniture, rugs, bedding, window treatment, and/or accessories that will exemplify each color scheme.
10. Add items to your set by choosing “HOME” and then browsing each category.
11. If you are not finished then click “SAVE AS A DRAFT” so you can return later.
12. When you finish choose “PUBLISH”. Name your set and in the description list the color scheme and the
colors used.
13. TO PRINT:
 Open a Word document and format: NARROW MARGINS
 Click on your set. When it opens click PRINT SCREEN
 Paste to your Word document. CROP, TEXT WRAP-TIGHT
 POSITION ALL PICTURES ON 1 PAGE
 Print in color and turn in.
