teaching students how to think rather than what to
think. During the course the concepts are applied to
real life situations, allowing children to make
transference from game scenarios to real life
experiences and scholastic achievements. The
extensive research conducted by Yale University

MONART ILLUSTRATION & ANIMATION
2nd – 5th Grades
Monart will provide Apple laptops with Wacom tablets and styluses for students to work on. Each child will be given
a flash drive that will back up their work. In the first two classes, digital illustration will teach students the process of
creating artwork directly on the computer using a tablet and stylus. Students will learn the basic tools to paint, blend,
and create special effects. In the third class, students will start animating and adding movement to their digital
illustrations (being educated in digital illustration first gives the students a good foundation to progress with). On
average, animating a character can take 2-4 classes. Once the students have completed animating two characters,
they will be ready to advance into 2-dimensional game design. As in the other phases of illustration and animation,
students have to illustrate and animate characters, design playing fields, and determine obstacles to start creating
their own comprehensive computer game. We anticipate 8-10 classes to design a full game.

comfortable and confident while attempting with the instructor
spot). Students are encouraged to do a forward roll, forward
straddle roll, bridge (lifting one leg at a time), headstand,
handstand into forward roll with assistance, cartwheel, all by
themselves. Some students should be able to do a backbend,

FALL 2015 A.S.A. INFORMATION
A.S.A. DISCIPLINE POLICY
The safety, well-being and personal growth of all children enrolled in our ASA programs are
the primary concern of Beth Yeshurun Day School. Accordingly, all students who participate
in EDC or ASA are expected to abide by our behavioral standards, respecting the school’s
boundaries, adult supervisors, fellow students, maintaining cooperative and appropriate
interactions. Adult supervisors and program leaders will be proactive. They will intervene in
order to assure that all students exhibit and maintain good behavior. Students whose
behavior falls short of what is necessary for any of our after school programs to operate
safely will be subject to a “3 Chance” Policy as follows:
CHANCE ONE:
The After School Activities Director will send a note home to the parents and follow up with a
phone call regarding the 1st non compliance interaction with the student.
CHANCE TWO:
The Principals are made aware of the 2nd non-compliance situation. The ASA Director will
send a 2nd note home and make another follow-up call to the parents. The student’s
behavior must improve or he/she will lose the privilege of continuing in the program.
CHANCE THREE:
A note/letter will be sent to the parents notifying them that the student has been permanently
dropped from EDC or ASA for non-compliance with no refund for the class.
