FRESHMAN ADVISOR CANDIDATE RELEASE

1. Freshman Advisors must meet and communicate with officers in charge of MFAR on a regular
basis
2. All FAs must participate in a fall and spring training program with dates that will be
announced when finalized.
3. Freshman Advisors must serve as good role models and representatives of the office of FARR
and Northern Caribbean University.
4. Communicate and follow up with their respective freshman students on a regular basis.
5. Maintain at least one (1) office hours per week in office of MFAR
6. FAs are expected to remain in good judicial and academic standing with the University during
employment

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsibilities include; providing a campus tour, promote healthy and positive experience among
freshman, assist in the transition of freshman students, coordinate programming efforts with the Office
of MFAR and work on a team with other Freshman Advisors, be on time and assist with ALL major
events involving freshman:
■ Fall and Spring orientation
■ University day
■ ADVANCE
■ New Student’s Consecration Luncheon
TERMS OF EMPOLYMENT
FA’s must commit to employment for one academic calendar year. All employees are subject to review
at the end of each academic semester. The office of MFAR reserves the right to withhold the renewal of
these year to year contracts. Additionally, we can terminate employment at any time due to failure to
complete responsibilities and/or poor representation of Northern Caribbean University.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
1. Be available and accessible to respective FA and staff.
2. Observe and communicate student special health problems and academic distress signals,
personal and/or social concerns and problems to the officers in charge the Office of MFAR.
3. Establishes and maintains relationships of trust and confidentiality with students and the staff of
MFAR.
4. Is familiar with campus offices and services in order to properly inform respective freshman.
5. Explain the FA role and responsibilities to respective freshmen and serve as a model of
responsible behavior.
6. Serve as a liaison between freshman students and the Office MFAR.
7. Supports and uphold the policies of the University, including being a positive role model for the
student body.
8. Completes all administrative tasks on time, including the documentation, filing, and/or
dissemination of information to students upon request and any other paperwork requested by the
Office of MFAR.
9. Attends all staff, and special meetings; these include spring, and fall training, and FA selection
responsibilities as assigned.
10. Attend periodic one-on-one sessions with the office in charge of MFAR
11. Maintain one (1) office hour per week in the Office of MFAR to assist with student needs.
12. Participate in the Freshman Orientation program held in July.

Maintains frequent communication with the MFAR officer, including working with him/her to
establish performance goals and expectations.
14. Participate in individual evaluation sessions each semester with the office in charge. These
sessions are designed to provide positive feedback and constructive criticism relative to the
performance and effectiveness of the Freshman Advisor.
15. Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, and orientation of new freshmen.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned by the office of MFAR.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
1. Demonstrates oral and written communication.
2. Ability to serve as a role model and mentor for students and staff.
3. Good interpersonal skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (If any):
1. May require frequent walking/ movement.
2. May require frequent climbing of stairs.
3. May require moderate or heavy lifting.
4. May require frequent typing.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Enrollment at Northern Caribbean University as a full-time student for one semester prior to the beginning
of the period: minimum of a 2.5 GPA thereafter and satisfactory conduct record. (Those candidates in
good standing, but not having a 2.5 cumulative average, will be considered on an individual basis,
particularly with regard to student leadership skills and involvement in campus life. If selected, the
candidate will be placed to probation and given one semester to bring his/her GPA up to the minimum
2.5)
COMPENSATION:
Current compensation for FA includes $5000.00 stipend per semester, totaling $10,000.00 per academic
year. Stipend is contingent on successful completion of responsibilities and positive performances
review by MFAR Officer.
