Awards, Honors, & Scholarship Committee Minutes ILF Office, 941 E. 86th Street, Suite 260, Indianapolis, IN 46240 August 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. Attendance: Cheryl Blevens, Tina Baich, Andrea Copeland, Tara White, Yoo Young Lee, Beverly Riggen (phone), Phyllis Nelson (phone), and June Kruer (phone) ILF Office: Susan Akers (Executive Director) and Tisa Davis (Communications) 1. Welcome: Cheryl Blevens welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 11:10 a.m. 2. Minutes: Tina Baich made a motion to accept the August 7, 2013 Awards, Honors and Scholarship Committee meeting minutes. Second by Tara White. Motion passed. 3. New Business:Ivy Tech – Susan Akers has been approached by Dr. Susan Mannen at Ivy Tech to inquire about developing clearer criteria for students who are working on library certification can be included in criteria for the Schlundt fund. The committee asked that Susan research the guidelines of the scholarship to see if the Schlundt family intended for only IU-SLIS or Drexel students be eligible. If no certain college or university is required, the name of the colleges and universities will be removed from the guidelines making scholarships available to any ALA-accredited university/college students who meet all other criteria. Officer Election–Committee representation was discussed. Tara White moved that one AISLE and 1 IALA position be added to the roster and the two trustee positions be dissolved until such time that the trustee association obtains more members. Second by Tina Baich. Motion carried. Officers and terms were then discussed. It is the will of the committee to change the Standing Rules of the Awards, Honors and Scholarship Committee to include: Under Membership, one sentence shall be added stating:Committee terms shall take effect January 1. Voting Members shall read, Public Library Representatives (2), Academic Library Representatives (2), School Library/Media Center Representatives (2), At-Large Members (3). Under Officers, four (4) sentences shall be added as follows: 1.) Officers serve a term of one year and can be reappointed. 2.) The Vice Chair is elected annually and will serve as Chair when that seat is vacated. 3.) In the event of a vacancy in the office of Chair person, the Vice Chair shall become the Chair and shall serve as such, both for the unexpired term and for the succeeding term. 4.) The ILF staff liaison will serve as recorder for the committee Nominations for officers from the floor: Tina Baich self-nominated for Chair, second by Tara White. Motion carried. Tara White self-nominated for Vice Chair, second by Yoo Young Lee. Motion carried. Secretary position will be filled by ILF liaison. 4. 2015-16 Awards, Honors and Scholarship Committee Roster: Chair, Tina Baich (At-Large member) Vice Chair, Tara White (AISLE representative) Yoo Young Lee, IALA representative Marissa Saenz, IALA representative June Kruer, IPLA representative Phyllis Nelson, IPLA representative Eleanor Nave, At-Large Member Darren Mills, At-Large Member 1 AISLE representative – TBD 5. Scholarship Applications: Susan announced that a total of $8570 is available for scholarships in 2014. Motion carried. 6. 2014 Awards and Honors: Each award nominee was discussed by the committee and the following people will be recognized at the Awards, Honors, & Scholarship Banquet, during the ILF Annual Conference at the Marriott East Hotel in Indianapolis: Amy Lyons will receive the “Outstanding New School Librarian Award” Karen Webb will receive the “Outstanding School Librarian Award” Mary Clare Speckner will receive the “Federation Volunteer Award” Phil Baugher will receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award” Portia Kapraun will receive the “Outstanding New Librarian Award” Kokomo-Howard County Public Library will receive the “Sara Laughlin Marketing Award” Monroe County Public Library will receive the “Programming Award” Terry Rheinheimer will receive the “Federation Leadership Award” Angy Northern will receive the “Peggy L. Pfeiffer Service Award” 7. Date/Speaker for Banquet: The Awards Banquet will be held on November 18, 2014 at the Marriott East Hotel during the ILF Annual Conference. Young adult author and blogger Mindy McGinnis from Ohio will be the banquet speaker. Committee members are encouraged to attend. 8.
