Maple Leaf Entrance Award for Social Science Students -2015
Valued at $500 each; 4 awards are given annually to students entering their first full time
semester in a Social Science program. The student may be starting the General Social Science
Program (300.EA) or a profile; International Business (300.EH), Commerce (300.EB), Child
Studies (300.EE), Environmental Studies ( 300.EG), Psychology (300.EP), Law, Society and
Justice(300.EK), North-South Studies (300.EM), or Travel and Tourism (300.ET).
Students must be studying full-time with 4 or more courses which must include at least one
Social Science course.
Winners will be chosen by a committee of three individuals who are employees of the College.
Winners are selected on the basis of financial need, interest in the Social Sciences, and previous
academic performance.
Deadline to apply is 4 pm on Friday, November 3rd, 2015. Please return applications to 2E.15.

This application requires two reference letters from individuals, other than your relatives who are
able to judge your academic achievement, your contributions to school and community and the
likelihood of your success in your chosen field of study.
You must be a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant in order to apply. International students
are not eligible to apply. The award will be presented on November 25, 2015 at an awards
ceremony and cheque will be mailed to the recipient’s home address.
You may wish to make a copy of your application form and the accompanying documents for
your records.
Only students who are chosen for an interview will be contacted by e-mail or MIO. We thank all
those who have applied.
In order to receive you award you must receive write a thank you letter to the donor
Incomplete application packages will not be reviewed.

Guidelines for Your Statement
1. What are your reasons for choosing to study the Social Sciences? What are your particular
interests? What are your particular strengths in the area you have chosen to study? What
do you think you might do as a result of these studies?
2. A description of yourself, including any details about your family life, your background and
interests, your strong points, your schooling and anything else which you think might help the
committee to understand you.
3. Describe the courses and activities you have enjoyed most in high school.
4. Describe what you usually do with your out-of-school time (e.g. employment, hobbies,
community activities, recreation). How have you made a contribution to your community?
5. Why would this scholarship be of help to you?
