Forsyth Central High School Grades 9 – 12 Summer Reading 2013 Read this summer! It’s the best gift you can give yourself! In support of the Common Core standards and in preparation for the ongoing rigor of high school, college, and life, the English Department at Forsyth Central High School strongly recommends that all of our students read over the summer break. Studies show that reading anything is beneficial, so find something you enjoy and read for fun! You will be making an important investment and giving yourself a wonderful gift. Rising AP and Honors level students will complete a specific assignment to prepare them for their English courses next year, and all other FCHS students are asked to make their own selections to read for pleasure and enrichment and to share with their English classes, when we return to school in August. A Suggested Reading List accompanies this Summer Reading Guideline on the FCHS website to assist students, who are not taking Honors or AP level courses, and their parents with reading choices. The Suggested Reading List is compiled of bestsellers, award winners, and the most popular books in our Media Center’s circulation. These books are not necessarily on our approved reading list for classroom instruction. Rising AP and Honors level book assignments are listed below and the complete assignment guideline for each course is posted on our website for student reference this summer. The assigned books may be purchased through an online Book Fair, sponsored by the FCHS Media Center or at local book sellers in our community.
