Job Description – Certification Chair
Effective Date: 1/1/14
Summary:
Increase the number of Chapter members who are certified by SHRM and/or HRCI.
Encourage members to become certified. Promote recertification events. If applicable,
manage the Chapter’s certification study program
Responsible To:
The members of the Chapter
The Chapter president
State Council Certification Director
Responsibilities:
 Promote benefits of certification and recertification to members.
 If applicable, provide information about the Chapter sponsored certification study group.
 In lieu of a Chapter sponsored study group, provide information to members about
alternative study methods.
 In lieu of a Chapter sponsored study group, develop mentoring program for members
preparing to test.
 Recognize and celebrate newly certified members at monthly meetings, in monthly
newsletter articles and through Chapter sponsored social media.
 Maintain listing of certified members and share when needed with appropriate board
members.
 Communicate recertification opportunities at monthly meetings, newsletter articles and
through Chapter sponsored social media.
 Communicate all enhancements impacting the certification and/or recertification process
at monthly meetings, newsletter articles and through Chapter sponsored social media.
 Maintain communication with the State Council Certification Director and the SHRM
and HRCI staff as needed.
 Participate in SHRM Certification Core Leadership Area conference calls and webcasts.
 Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic
planning for the Chapter.
 Promote certification scholarships and choose recepiens.
 Represent the Chapter in the human resources community.
 Attend all monthly membership and board of directors meetings.
Requirements:
Chapter’s Certification Chair must have a current HRCI or SHRM certification designation.
