Junction City Senior High School ~ 2013 – 2014
Family & Consumer Sciences
Syllabus
Course: Child Growth & Development II
Instructor: Miss Lauren Stewart (Simmons)
Room 288
Course Description Child Care courses provide students with knowledge about the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development of children from birth through childhood. Main topics include the fundamentals of working with infants, toddlers, and older children; providing healthy environments; evaluating child care settings; and the practices, regulations, and opportunities in the child care industry. Often, Child Care courses provide students with practical experience in a child care center. Advanced topics may include various learning theories; development of activities; operation of a child care center; recognition of childhood diseases, abuse, and neglect; and first aid/emergency training.
This course will be focused around planning and carrying out a preschool lab.
Students will do the actual planning and modeling of the various skills needed to successfully interact with young children.
Due to the lab experience being in the school students are not required to have TB test until they are enrolled in CCHS. It would be advised that the
Prerequisites student have this taken care of before their next class and turn in the form into their instructor as soon as it is done.

Attendance &
Make-up Work
Attendance is required at all classes and will affect the semester grade accordingly. A significant number of classes will be spent in a pre-school lab setting, these class periods cannot be made-up outside of the classroom. Make-up work must be completed within the designated time period. It is the responsibility of the student to see that all the assignments and tests are made up. Students will have 3 school days after they return to get any missing assignments turned in for credit. If missing work is not turned in within this time frame, it will be a zero. If you miss a lab and it is excused, you will be assigned a packet of work that relates to the curriculum, there will be a page for each day that is missed.
Class & Lab Rules
Students are expected to act in a professional manner.
Combing hair and general grooming is inappropriate for this classroom.
