World Geography
Tectonic plate movement
• Tectonic plate movement may be
caused by slab pull, ridge push and
convection.
Lithosphere
• An earthquake is part of the
lithosphere.
Tectonic Movement
• A plateau is caused by
tectonic movement.
Latitude
• Latitude important in
determining a type of climate.
Delta
• As a river reaches its mouth, it is
often affected by incoming tides,
resulting in a landform called a
delta.
Middle Latitudes
• Majority of marine west coast
climates are located in the
middle latitudes.
Tsunamis
• Japan sits along a subduction
zone causing high levels of
volcanic and tectonic activity
causing ocean activity known as
tsunamis.
areas located near oceans vs. inland
areas
• Do not vary much because
water heats and cools more
slowly.
Tropical Latitudes
• A warm rainforest biome is
located in the tropical latitudes.
High Latitudes
• An Alaskan black bear would
likely thrive in the high latitudes.
Vegetation
• When studying the physical
characteristics of the Gulf Coastal
Plain region of the United States,
you should select maps for the
region that show vegetation.
Summer
• It is summer in China on the June
21st solstice.
Revolution
• Revolution of the Earth around
the Sun is responsible for the
different seasons on Earth.
Tilt
• The Northern Hemisphere has
the warmest climate when it is
tilted most directly towards the
Sun.
The Great Plains
• The Great Plains region has
climate, elevation and landforms
in common.
Sustainable Society
• A major concern in the
development of technology in a
sustainable society is how the
future will be affected
Relative & Absolute Location
• Relative location is directional
terms
• absolute location is longitude
and latitude
Examples of Modifications to the
Environment
• Western settlers hunted so many buffalo that
American Indian tribes who depended on them for
food, shelter, and clothing were unable to meet their
needs.
• American Indian tribes believed in community
ownership of land, while English settlers believed in
private property and competed for land so that they
could use it as they wanted.
• French traders collected animal furs in North America
as an economic activity, while Spanish forces in
Mexico conquered native people and undertook
mining.
Open Ended
• Be able to write a description of an island and
how you would survive on it with limited
resources.
Open Ended
• How important is Physical Geography in
today’s world. Be able to defend your answer
with evidence from the past four weeks.
