Alex Marvez, South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Allen's contract is structured so that he is ultimately
expected to receive a $4.6 million bonus that would lower but guarantee his projected base
salaries between the 2007 and 2010 seasons. The Dolphins included the option to gain salary
cap relief in future years because the bonus money can be prorated over the length of Allen's
contract. The Dolphins, though, can get off the hook for $4.23 million in guaranteed salary with
a $400,000 buyout if Allen is released because of hip-related medical problems.

John Clayton, ESPN: The Miami Dolphins continued their aggressive approach to upgrading their
starting lineup by reaching a four-year, $12 million deal with Giants cornerback Will Allen.
Included in the deal are guarantees of $5 million.
Mike Florio, PFT: The 2001 first-rounder will indeed receive more than $10 million guaranted on
his new contract. But it comes in the form of a guaranteed base salary of $4 million in 2009, a
guaranteed base salary of $5.2 million in 2010, and a signing bonus of $1.5 million. Allen already
was due to make $4 million this year, but the payment wouldn’t have been guaranteed until the
start of the regular season (due to the “termination pay” rules of the CBA). Under the new
contract, Allen also is scheduled to earn a base salary of $5.5 million in 2011. So it’s a $12.2
million in new money, $6.7 million of which is guaranteed.

Clark Judge, CBS Sportsline: they gave him a $6 million bonus to re-sign. But look at the fine
print of his contract: There's a $14 million roster bonus due in 2010.
Edgar Thompson, Palm Beach Post: Bell’s $6 million signing bonus, part of a four-year, $20
million contract, was a nice reward for a 120-tackle season. But two seasons removed from a
torn Achilles tendon, Bell, 31, will have to prove he’s durable. His base salary of $2.55 million in
2009 drips to $1.85 million in 2010 before bouncing up to $3.7 million in 2011 and $4.3 million
in 2012. Bell also has incentives each year that can increase his pay.
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: Bell was scheduled to earn $4.3 in base salary with a

South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Boston reached agreement on a restructured contract worth almost

$665,000 (2005), and will earn roster bonuses of $1.72 million (2004) and $3.34 million (2005).
Boston also could earn a combined $3.65 million for the first two seasons through incentives. In
2006 and 2007, Boston is slated to earn $5 million in base salary and $1 million roster bonuses
each season.
John Clayton, ESPN: He is scheduled to make $24 million over the first four years of a sevenyear, $47.4 million deal, and under terms of the renegotiated contract, Boston will make almost
all of that money.
The Dolphins will have Boston's base pay at around $535,000. He can make close to $2.5 million
in addition to the base salary by just being on the roster for each game. Those roster bonuses
will fill out what will be a $3 million salary for 2004. Boston can make $4 million next year in a

Jason Cole, South Florida Sun-Sentinel: The deal breaks down into a signing bonus of $1.05
million and $50,000 each year as a workout bonus. He will receive a base salary of $280,000 this
season, $416,000 in 1995, $509,000 in 1996 and $601,500 in 1997. He also receives a roster
bonus of $43,500 this season if he makes the team.
Alex Marvez, South Florida Sun-Sentinel: The Dolphins cleared $4.25 million in salary-cap space
Friday by restructuring the contract of defensive tackle Tim Bowens… Bowens faced being
released had he not agreed to take a pay cut from the $6.5 million he was slated to receive this
season… Bowens will receive $3 million in base salary, $1.5 million of which is guaranteed, and
can earn an additional $2.1 million if he plays on 70 percent of the defensive snaps.
Jason Cole, South Florida Sun-Sentinel: While the final totals may read five years for $25 million,
defensive tackle Tim Bowens' contract is officially being considered a three-year, $10.5 million
contract by the NFL… Because Bowens has the right to get out of the contract after three years
and the league designates that as ``likely'' to happen, the arbiters of the salary cap consider the
deal a three-year one… the $4 million signing bonus that Bowens received is divided by 3. The
resulting $1.33 million is counted against the cap in each of the first three seasons instead of a
smaller amount counting over five years. Thus, Bowens will count as $2.33 million against the
cap this season. That will rise to $3.83 million in 1999 and $4.33 million in 2000. The final two
years, which comprise $14.5 million of the deal, will not be counted unless Bowens is still with
the team. Bowens can opt out of the contract after the 2000 season by telling the team by Feb.
1, 2001, agent Drew Rosenhaus said.
Todd Archer, Palm Beach Post: The Dolphins re-signed defensive tackle Tim Bowens, their firstround pick in 1994, to a three-year deal with two option years that could pay him $15.15
million… Bowens received a $3 million signing bonus and will be paid base salaries of $650,000
(2002), $850,000 (2003), $2.25 million (2004), $3.1 million (2005) and $3.5 million (2006). The
Dolphins can pick up the final two years of the deal by paying Bowens a $1.8 million option
bonus after the 2003 season.
Jason Cole, Miami Herald: Bowens received a new four-year contract that includes a base salary
of $760,000 this season, a signing bonus of $1.24 million and a roster bonus of $250,000.

philter25@yahoo.com: I had some dialogue with a Miami beat writer on Crowders contract. He
said it was a 3 year deal averaging 5 mil and it had a voidable 3rd year, but he wasnt 100% sure
on the 3rd year.
Jason Cole, Yahoo Sports: Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder (three years, $13.8
million) and Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth (four years, $28 million) cashed in this
year after each commanded well under $3 million during their initial pacts as third-round picks
in the ’05 draft.
Edgar Thompson, Palm Beach Post: Many believed linebacker Channing Crowder got shortchanged on his 11th-hour deal because of his $1.5 million base salary - a $500,000 bump on the
final year of his rookie deal. Crowder wanted to be a Dolphin and would have like more than
three years on his contract, which will pay him an average of $4.6 million a year, not exactly
special teams player money. But a $3.75 million signing bonus and $1 million roster bonus may
have eased some bad feelings. Crowder, 25, will earn a base salary of $2.1 million next year and
$2.5 million in 2011, but also has escalators each year that could reach $1.3 million.
Ben Volin, Palm Beach Post: Crowder, a third-round pick in 2005, is under contract through next
season, and is due $3.75 million - $2.5 million base salary, a $250,000 workout bonus and a
bonus of $62,500 each week he is on the active roster (for a maximum total of $1 million).

has annual $25,000 workout bonuses. In the third year of Ellerbe's deal, $3 million of his $8.425

to fully guaranteed, though. Ellerbe has nonguaranteed base salaries of $6.45 million in 2016
and $6 million in 2017, the final year of the deal.
Omar Kelly, Sun-Sentinel: Ellerbe, who was guaranteed $3 million by the Dolphins for this
season, agreed to take a significant pay cut from the $8.45 million he was originally scheduled to
make from a deal he signed with the Dolphins in 2013. The Dolphins took on $3.6M of Ellerbe's
salary in pre-trade renegotiation, and pay him a $1.5 million signing bonus. By redoing the deal
instead of cutting Ellerbe, or trading him outright, the Dolphins took on $7.8 million of dead
money instead of $4.2 million had he been traded on his old deal… Ellerbe now has a new threeyear deal worth $15.2 million, which features $5.2 million being fully guaranteed.
Aaron Wilson, NFP: Traded to the New Orleans Saints along with a third-round draft pick from

2016 base salary is fully guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed if he’s on the

million signing bonus in 1995. The Dolphins will have to count $583,300 of prorated signing
bonus against the salary cap this season and $2.33 million in 1997. Then there is the $1.5
million he is due this season in reporting bonus ($400,000) and salary ($1.1 million). Rosenhaus
said he and Green have spoken with the NFL Players Association about a grievance. Rosenhaus
contends that Green was injured during a May minicamp. The Dolphins say Green told them he
got hurt jogging on his own.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Green restructure a contract that called for him to make $24.1 million in
the next three seasons. For Green, the plusses in Miami, where his basic contract is worth $13.5
million for three years, outweighed the reduction in earning power. According to league salary
documents, Green received a $1 million signing bonus in his new, three-year contract with the
Dolphins, and will earn a workout bonus of $100,000. His base salary for 2007 is $1.5 million.
There is a $3.4 million roster bonus that represents more than half of Green's compensation for
this season… Green can earn nearly $2.5 million in add-ons if he is the starter, returns to the
form he exhibited until a head injury all but scuttled his '06 season with the Chiefs, and leads the
Dolphins deep into the playoffs. In 2008, Green, who will turn 37 next month before the start of
training camp, has a base salary of $2.8 million and a $100,000 workout bonus. There is a
$500,000 roster bonus that is payable at the rate of $29,412 for each week he is on the roster.
The final season of the contract, in 2009, calls for a $3.5 million base salary and a workout bonus
of $100,000. Again, there is a $500,000 workout bonus, at $29,412 per week… Green's salary
cap charges for the three seasons are $5.33 million in 2007, $3.733 million for 2008, and $4.433
million for 2009.

Peter King, SI.com: It's a one-year, $925,000 deal, the minimum for veterans of the 34-year-old
Ochocinco's experience. He can double that through incentives -- to just over $2 million -- but
those incentives are steep. He'll have to catch at least 80 balls with the Dolphins to make much
in extras… because there are backside performance bonuses to the contract, the deal will count
$925,000 against the cap…

on Saturday has an overall value of $4.627 million. However, Marion will receive only $627,000
in the first year of the deal through signing bonus ($150,000) and base salary ($477,000). The
final year of the contract includes a $2 million roster bonus and $2 million base salary, neither of
which Marion will receive if the Dolphins release him in the 2002 offseason as expected…
Marion, though, shouldn't be crying poverty after collecting $8 million in his previous three-year
contract with the Dolphins.
Todd Archer, Palm Beach Post: Marion received a $2.75 million signing bonus with his five-year
deal that totals $11.3 million. Marion will receive base salaries of $650,000 (2002), $800,000

Adam Schefter, ESPN: Marshall and the Dolphins subsequently agreed on a four-year, $47.5
million contract extension that includes $24 million in guaranteed money, according to a league
source. The deal includes close to $29 million in the first three years of the contract and makes
Marshall the highest paid receiver in NFL history.
Mike Florio, PFT: the full contract is worth $47.3 million over five years. It contains a phony $2.7
million roster bonus payable in 2014 -- but only if Marshall participates in 95 percent or more of
the Dolphins' special teams plays in 2010… So the Dolphins instead have paid out a signing
bonus of $5.5 million. Coupled with a guaranteed base salary (for skill and injury) of $4 million
in 2010, Marshall's contract has a minimum value of $9.5 million over one year.
Here's the kicker. If the Dolphins decide before April 2, 2011 that Marshall isn't who they
thought he was, they can walk away, possibly without paying Marshall another penny. Prior to
April 2, 2011, he has only $3 million in future guaranteed money that already has been
unlocked. But the contract contains offset language; if they cut him and someone else pays him
$3 million in 2011, the Dolphins are off the hook for the balance of the contract. And even if the
Dolphins pay a $3 million option bonus due on April 2, 2011, guaranteed base salaries of $6.5
million in 2011 and $6 million in 2012 (he also has $3 million in non-guaranteed base pay in
2012) can be nullified if Marshall is suspended by the league. So, for now, the only guaranteed
money is $12.5 million, with an offset for up to $3 million. If the Dolphins decided to keep him
past April 2, 2011, another $9.5 million in guaranteed base salaries will be available -- as long as
Marshall stays out of trouble.
Andrew Brandt, NFP: Ignoring the total value of $47.5 million, much of it nonguaranteed funny
money later in the deal, the Dolphins raised Marshall’s 2010 compensation from $2.5M to
$9.5M – a signing bonus of $5.5M, guaranteed salary of $4M, plus $3M in future guaranteed
salary with an offset (the Jake Delhomme lesson). In 2011, the Dolphins can retain Marshall
with a $3M option bonus, and that secures future guarantees of $12.5M in 2011 and 2012.
Thus, Marshall either makes between $9.5M and $12.5M for one year, or he makes up to $25M
guaranteed over three years.
Tim Graham, ESPN: Brandon Marshall is at the top of the NFL pay scale. The Dolphins gave him
the league's richest average salary when they signed him to an offseason extension. Marshall is
averaging $11.19 million through 2014.
Adam Schefter, ESPN: $200,000 [workout bonus in 2011 for 90% participation]
Jay Glazer, Fox Sports: the Miami Dolphins have agreed to trade Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon
Marshall to the Chicago Bears for third-round picks in 2012 and 2013.

Mike Florio, PFT: We’re also told that reports of a two-year, $11.5 million contract for
Pennington were just flat wrong. His two-year deal is worth only (only?) $7.9 million.
Chris Mortenson, ESPN: The two sides have reached an agreement in which Pennington will
receive a one-year contract for $2.5 million but allow for another $1.515 million if he is traded,
according to sources. A team interested in Pennington confirmed that it was informed of
Pennington's renewed commitment to the Dolphins. Pennington had requested a no-trade
clause that was rejected by the Dolphins. If he's traded, he'll make $4.15 million in 2010
Armando Salguero, Miami Herald: if Pennington starts over Henne, the veteran gets a salary of
$5.75 million.
Steve Wyche, of NFL.com, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington's new contract will pay
him $2.5 million if he is the backup quarterback, $4.2 million if he is traded and $5.75 million if
he is the team's starter, according to a source.
Mike Florio, PFT: Pennington’s contract contains a roster bonus that pays out $200,000 for each
game in which he plays at least one snap. He took two snaps in Week 10, before his shoulder
snapped, again. Thus, he earned an extra $200,000 for his trouble.

AP: Smith, 29, agreed last week to the $1.75 million deal, which includes a $500,000 signing
bonus.
Peter King, CNNSI.com: A Washington superior court ruling in 1998 called for 35 percent of
Smith's salary and 50 percent of any bonus money to be paid directly to Frier through 2005, with
a cap on those earnings of reportedly $5 million. That cap has not been reached. So Frier gets
$425,000 ($250,000 from Smith's $500,000 signing bonus, and $175,000 from his $500,000
salary) from Smith this year. Next season, when Smith is due to make $650,000 plus a $100,000

Ben Volin, Palm Beach Post: The Dolphins were willing to give first-round pick Ryan Tannehill the
four-year, $12.668 million contract that he was slotted to get as the eighth overall pick in April’s
draft… The contract does contain offset language that will mostly affect Tannehill’s fourth-year
salary, but in return the Dolphins converted most of Tannehill’s base salary into roster bonuses…
here’s what the Dolphins and Tannehill agreed to:
Signing bonus: $7.653 million 2012 salary: $390,000 base 2013 salary: $480,000 base + $485,841
bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp 2014 salary: $570,000 base + $971,682
bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp 2015 salary: $660,000 base + $1.457
million bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp…

Orlando Alzugaray, South Florida Sun-Sentinel: 500,000 Signing bonus; 310,000 - Base salary;
150,000 – Roster bonus; 50,000 – Workout bonus
Ben Volin, Palm Beach Post: Wake really signed a three-year contract worth $17 million
guaranteed. He has what is essentially a $3 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2015
league year… The contract is really a five-year deal that runs from 2012-16… Wake received a $7
million signing bonus that is pro-rated over five years for salary cap purposes… His salary cap
numbers for the next five seasons are: $2.19 million, $5.015 million, $7.285 million, $9.7 million,
$9.8 million… Wake’s salary ($615,000) and bonuses ($50,000) stay the same for 2012… His base
salaries of $3.565 million in 2013 and $5.82 million in 2014 are fully guaranteed… Between
2014-2016, Wake can earn an extra $5 million per year based on getting a certain number of
sacks in a season… If the Dolphins pay Wake the $3 million option in 2015 and he makes the
team in September, he will get an additional $5.2 million in salary that year. His salary for 2016
would then be $8.275 million.
Mike Florio, PFT: Wake will get… Base salary of $8.2 million in 2015, $3 million of which is
guaranteed for injury only for now. If Wake if on the roster on the fifth day of the 2015 league
year, the $3 million becomes guaranteed for skill and injury… Workout bonuses of $50,000 in
2012, $50,000 in 2013, $65,000 in 2014, $100,000 in 2015, and $125,000 in 2016… Up to $5
million in escalators for 2014, 2015, and 2016 based on sacks.
Joel Corry, CBS Sports: Wake's 2015 base salary goes up $750,000 to $8.95 million because he
had 11.5 sacks. It would have increased by another $1 million with 13 sacks. Fifteen sacks would
have given him a total 2015 salary increase of $3 million. Leading the league in sacks would have
pushed Wake's 2015 base salary up $5 million to $13.25 million.

Edgar Thompson, Palm Beach Post: White, who is expected to immediately add a new
dimension to the team’s Wildcat formation, has agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth
around $4.5 million… White, the No. 44 pick in April, will receive around $2.4 million in
guaranteed money, the source confirmed.

(Spread out over last 3 years of contract starting in 2,010 at 512,718 per year). 416,175 - Roster
bonus (It’s just like a signing bonus).
White also has a 481,171 Roster bonus that’s a not likely to be earned incentive, this does not
count against the cap until the players earns it. These bonuses could be tied to total yards, td’s,

plays; Has a QB rating of over 100.1; Completes more than 59% of his passes; Surpasses 1,600
yards.
White can also earn the bonus if the team improves in certain statistical categories: -Avg rush
yards per play. -Avg passing yard per play. -Total offensive yards -Total touchdowns scored.

Adam Schefter, NFL.com: The contract includes $8 million in guaranteed money and $16.5
million in the first three years.
Edgar Thompson, Palm Beach Post: Bell’s new sidekick, Gibril Wilson, made out like a bandit in
the past 13 months or so, picking up a $8.4 million bonus from the Raiders last year and a $5
million bonus from the Dolphins, who signed him in February after Oakland cut him after just
one season. Wilson’s $950,000 base salary in 2009 would seem to balance the scales, but he’s
also getting a $2 million roster bonus. His base salaries then pick up to $3.85 (2010), $4.55
million (2011), $5.06 million (2012) and $5.35 million (2013).
