Spelling/Vocabulary - Rowan County Schools

advertisement
2015-2016
Dear Families,
In this folder are all of the vocabulary and spelling words for our
Reading Street Reading textbook. Students take the folder home
each night and bring it back each day.
Each page contains two selections or stories of
vocabulary/spelling words. The top is one week then below the line
is the next week. Students will write the date of the week in which
we start that selection/story.
Vocabulary words are on the left hand side. Students should
be able to read these words and know the meaning or definition of
the words. The definitions are in the Reading textbook glossary. The
Amazing Words are for oral vocabulary. Focus on the words listed
under vocabulary words. Once your child knows those inside and
out, then use the Amazing Words as a challenge set. Students will
NOT be tested on the Amazing Words.
Spelling words are on the right hand side under the heading
Spelling Words and follow a certain phonics rule. Students should be
able to read these words, know the meaning, put the rule into action
AND spell them. Along with the spelling words listed on the page,
students will be given 5 additional words (not listed) that they will
spell using the phonics rule they’ve learned. A Spelling test will be
given on Friday. There will be NO pretest given in our classroom,
however, you are certainly welcome to do a pretest at home, if you
would like.
HOMEWORK
Please see the following page for spelling homework. Each week
students will complete 3 different activities of their choice. Once the
activity is completed, sign your child’s planner and write the activity
they completed. Homework will be due on Friday.
