achieved exceptional success in increasing student oral proficiency by
using creative methods, exemplary motivation techniques, and authentic
immersion experiences outside the classroom. A $500 honorarium and a

Current Spanish teachers could win one of five stipends of
$500 offered by AATSP to help defer expenses to attend the
AATSP Conference. Stipend recipients must be AATSP
members at the time of the application and the conference and
will represent various geographic regions and levels of
instruction. Winners must be first time attendees. See this

Study Abroad
There are two sources of funding for the AATSP Summer Study-Abroad
Scholarship Programs. All of the recipients of these funds receive tuition and
other waivers directly from the study program. Upon their return, recipients
must submit a brief written summary of their scholarship experience, detailing
the program and how they will utilize what they learned in their classes, a travel
reimbursement request along with appropriate receipts, and a certificate of
course completion. See the website for eligibility requirements. Opportunities
include:
1. Funds for tuition and other expenses for study-abroad programs
AATSP offers funds for specific programs in Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica,
Mexico, or Spain. These funds vary by program and are explained in detail under
the name of the program. See the scholarship section of the national website
for additional information: http://www.aatsp.org/?page=Scholarships
2. AATSP travel allowance for study programs in Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Costa
Rica, Mexico, or Spain. See the scholarship section of the website mentioned
above.
The Robert G. Mead, Jr. Travel and Study/Research Stipend
The Robert G. Mead, Jr. Travel and Study/Research Stipend
provides a $1,000.00 annual scholarship and is made possible
through the generous contributions of the friends and colleagues
of Professor Mead and of his widow, Harriet Mead. The stipend is
for travel to and study/research in a Luso-Hispanic country with a
given proposal or goal in mind. The term "study" does not mean that
the winner is required to enroll in a course in an institution of
higher learning or any sort of school, although that may be the
case. Likewise, the term “research” does not mean that the winner
will need to conduct research leading to publication although that
too may be the case. Other areas being equal, priority will be given
to applicants without prior experience traveling or living in a LusoHispanic country.
