Shapers of the World – based in the English department, this Senior Honors
Course is an interdisciplinary Humanities course that combines literature, art,
music, philosophy, history and science. Students are also enrolled in History of
Art and History of Music courses

2010: GHS students captured 1st and 2nd place in the 26th annual Shakespeare
competition sponsored by the English Speaking Union and Smith College.
Social Studies Program
•
14 Social Studies Elective Course for Juniors and Seniors including:

AP Psychology, AP U.S. Government and Politics & Comparative Government and
Politics, AP European History, etc.

Science Program
•
38 Courses: Biology (AP), Chemistry (AP), Physics (AP), Environmental Science (AP),
Forensics, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Astronomy, Horticulture, etc.

Honors Science Research Seminar - The course is designed to provide students with the
opportunity to: 1. Interact with practicing scientists; 2. Participate in a significant research
experience; 3. Select, develop and conduct an independent research project; 4. Develop the skills
of reporting and presenting research.
•
2010: 11 of 13 GHS Science projects were selected as finalists at CT Science Fair
•
2010: A GHS student qualified to compete at the Intel-International Science and
Engineering Fair (ISEF), receiving a First Award in the Engineering: Materials and
Bioengineering category.
•
This is the fourth consecutive year that at least one GHS student has presented his/her
research at ISEF. In the past 4 years, 8 GHS students have been selected to compete at ISEF.
•
2009: 4 of 6 CT students qualified to compete at the Intel-International Science and
Engineering Fair (ISEF) were from GHS

2009: GHS student: 3rd in 2009 International Sustainable World Engineering, Energy, and
Environment Project Symposium (ISWEEEP)
World Languages
Program
• Seven Languages: Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, German,
Latin and American Sign Language
• 39 Courses available at all level: Introductory, Intermediate, Honors and AP
• Over 90% of GHS students take 3 years or more of World Languages
• 2009: 17 Gold and Silver Medal winners-National Latin Exam
• 2009: 16 Award Winners, including 2 1st place awards for the State of
Connecticut-National French Contest
