The Silk Roadies
Traders used a series of overland routes to take goods to distant buyers. For example, Chinese
traders sold their goods in Central Asia to local traders who would take them the rest of the way to
Europe. As a result, many interactions happened across the Silk Road. Imagine you were a merchant
traveling along the Silk Road. What would you search for? What would you be willing to trade for the
prized silk?
Using the website, http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/Comix/ ,create a comic strip that shows a
bartering or interaction between a local vendor and traveling merchant.
In your comic strip, you need to include:
______ A destination (choose your city from the list provided on the Qin and Han
website)
______ At least 2 characters—1 local merchant and 1 traveling merchant
_____Trading of goods that are associated to the homeland of the merchants (i.e. a
merchant from Turfan would most likely trade spices because the area is known for
growing a variety of fruits, vegetables, and trading spices).
______ An account of the journey of the traveling merchant. Was it safe? How was it
traveling through the desert? Etc.
______ At least 4 frames in your comic
When you are finished, you may either e-mail me your comic or print it off and turn it in during class.
