CURRENT EVENT (50 points) BE CAREFUL TO FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS. All papers must follow requirements for Level 4 of the Essential Methods of Expression Through Performance and Production. (www.octc.kctcs.edu/expectations) 1). Find an article in a professional journal from the health care field that applies to an anatomy/physiology subject. Try to find something from the field that you are planning on entering. Articles from non-professional journals will lose 25 points. NEWS Rx, WEBMD, Prevention and Wikipedia are not professional sources do not use them. They will lose 25 points. Medline is not a source it is a search engine-cite as such. Sources such as news magazines, (Newsweek, Time, U.S. News and World Report), opinion magazines (Nation), popular magazines (Sport's Illustrated, Redbook), and popular health magazines (Fitness, Prevention) are not professional journals. Use only professional medical, nursing or radiology sources. (AJN, Nursing 20--, LPN, Clinical Radiology, etc) The library has the journals in the periodical section. They are also available on the database. (Suggestion: Check to make sure that the author has medical qualifications. (Articles that do not list an author usually do not qualify as professional sources) Articles on subjects that do not apply to anatomy and physiology will also lose 25 points. (This includes articles on changes in the nursing profession, or radiology equipment, etc.) Check with me to make sure your article qualifies. 2). Write a 2 page essay (2 pages means at least 20 lines on the second page) Less than 2 pages means a loss of 1 to 20 points depending on the length of the paper. I do count lines and I take -1 point for every line missing. There is no punishment for papers that are too long. I will not accept one page papers, they will receive no more than 5 points. 3). The paper should include A summary of the article. (This should not be an exact replicated of the article. That is plagiarism.) Any tangent material that may be associated to the article (such as additional pathological information) Look in the textbook. How the information applies to anatomy and physiology. Do not say “this applies to A&P because….” (That will lose 5 points) It should be obvious that it applies to A&P; just give the details. The impact on medicine and patient care. This is not to be considered an outline for the essay. The subject matter can easily be mixed throughout the paper. A paper that looks like this: Paragraph 1 summary, Paragraph 2 tangent material, Paragraph 3 applies to A& P, etc is a dull paper and will be graded as such. 4). Include a copy of the article. The article is worth 10 points. 5). Even though the article is included. There needs to be an APA reference page and the article needs to be cited throughout the paper. Refer to the APA FORMAT page. Papers that are replicas of the article will lose at least 10 points, even if you use your own words. Changing one or two words still counts as plagiarism. Papers that are missing a reference page or that are not cited throughout will lose 10 points. 6). Do not over quote your sources. A 2 page paper can have 2 quotes maximum. I am not interested in what the author has to say I want to hear from you. 7). Follow “Rules For Writing A Good Science Paper” and the “APA Fomat” instructions 8). Use Times-New Roman font and 12 font size and double space the paper. Check the grammar and the spelling. DO NOT SPACE EXTRA AFTER THE PARAGRAPH. Check the word default to prevent this. 9). Staple the papers. (I will take 5 points off if the papers are not stapled) Do not use clips or fancy covers. Summary: In addition to the scoring that was listed on the Good Science Paper & APA FORMAT I will remove points for the following.
