Job Summary o Assists Florida businesses to successfully expand overseas, grow global market share and sell products/services abroad with the assistance of Florida SBDC Network advisors. Meets strategic objectives of the Florida SBDC Network and the Florida SBDC at FIU. Provides education and resources to colleagues and clients, develops key partnerships, increases grant and contract capacities, and assists in establishing statewide initiatives to serve the international trade needs of companies throughout Florida. Establishes and leads the Florida SBDC Network International Business & Trade initiative in Florida. Obtains training and education to assist clients with international trade, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and expertise is maintained. Leads and coordinates a team of colleagues certified as international trade specialists to disseminate knowledge gained to assist clients effectively and efficiently. Implements and maintains strategies, systems, and educational tools necessary to ensure clients are successful. Keeps abreast with customs and cultural initiatives, providing educational opportunities for colleagues and clients to improve abilities to successfully conduct business in foreign markets. Develops contacts and connects clients with supply chain / quality management resources to meet foreign customer requirements. Provides one-on-one counseling with clients, either directly or through the Florida SBDC Network consultants, on ways to meet various requirements and specifications necessary for successfully exporting goods or services. Builds and maintains professional and effective partnerships internally and externally, including the International Trade Office in the Department of Economic Development, USEAC, Enterprise Florida, Economic Development offices, the World Trade Center, international chambers of commerce, and others as appropriate. In addition, develops partnerships to enhance statewide initiatives and improve opportunities for grants and contracts. Identifies and works closely with potential stakeholders, financial partners, and other funding opportunities for the purpose of advancing Florida businesses capacity in international trade. Promotes Florida's international trade program successes through speaking engagements, collaboration on training events, and writing news articles for publication. Works with communications/marketing experts to promote services and successes on a regular basis. Identifies successes and documents economic, societal, and social impact of clients served throughout Florida. Represents FIU and the Florida SBDC Network in professional associations in the area of international trade and commerce. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in an appropriate specialization and four years of experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and six years of experience. Departmental Requirements: Ability to conduct market research in both English and Spanish including familiarity with common international trade databases and statistical sites. Ability to update and maintain a customer relations management system. Desired Qualifications: • NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional credential. • Fluent in Portuguese, French or a third language in addition to English and Spanish. • Ability to supervise a team of international trade specialists located throughout Florida. • Obtain/Maintain NASBITE Certification as a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) and encourage other colleagues to become certified. • Develop and implement plans to raise awareness of global opportunities for Florida small and medium-size business. • Involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the Florida SBDC Network. • Knowledge of pending and actual changes to federal, state, and municipal public policy regulations that impact clientele. Advise colleagues, administrators and clientele as needed to respond to new issues. • Ability to travel throughout the state, as necessary. • Minimum bachelor's degree in international trade, finance, economics, business or related area. • Minimum five years of experience in international business development or international trade. • At least three years of management experience. • Experience in doing business in Latin America, Europe or Asia, such as owning or operating a business overseas and/or importing and exporting products, developing markets and conducting negotiations.
