The Goucher College Dance Department offers intensive training in the
performing arts to prepare graduates for leadership in the multifaceted world of dance.
The dance department offers a dance major with tracks of study in Performance, Dance
Education, Choreography, Dance History and Criticism, Dance Therapy, Dance
Administration, Dance Science, and Dance and Theatre, as well as a minor in dance.
Classes are taught in one of our 4 state of the art dance studios. Advanced and specialized
courses emphasize independence and initiative, allowing students to pursue areas of
special interest. Each specialized track has a recommended course of study to prepare a
student for graduate school or a career in dance. Goucher also offers unique opportunities
for internships and international study, as well as training in the Pilates Method of Body
Conditioning, using a fully equipped studio with certified Pilates instructors. In addition
to daily technique classes, the semiannual guest-artists-in-residence program features five
distinguished artists each year. The Goucher Repertory Dance Ensemble performs
contemporary and classical works throughout the year and formal studio performances
give students opportunities to choreograph and perform in our 1,000-seat Kraushaar
Auditorium or our Todd Studio Theatre. Goucher is a private, coeducational liberal arts
and sciences college located outside of Baltimore in Towson, Maryland is only one hour
from Washington, D.C. and provides financial aid through academic scholarships, workstudy programs, and numerous dance scholarships based on ability.
