January 15 – Discussed relationship symbols including <, >, ≤, ≥, =, ≠, ⊆, ⊈, ⊂, ⊄, ∈, ∉, ≱, ≯, ≰, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ≮ and operator
symbols including ×, ÷, ∪, ∩, +, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 −. Basic sets were defined including Natural numbers, Whole numbers,
Integers, Rational numbers, Irrational numbers, even numbers, odd numbers, prime numbers and composite numbers.
Homework: Section 0.1 – 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 25, 29, 31, 33, 39, 40, 41, 46, and 48.
January 17 – Snow cancelled class.
January 22 – Collected homework. Discussed Real numbers, interval notation, absolute value definition, distance
between two numbers on a number line, and meaning of exponential notation, including products, powers, quotient,
zero exponent, and negative exponent. Web Assign is open now. Homework: There is a WebAssign homework due by
11:59 Thursday night! Written homework from Section 0.1 - 51 – 75 multiples of 3, 81, 85, 91, 97, 99, 101, 103 and
Section 0.2 – 1-4, 13 39 odd, 45, 51, 55, 63, 73abd 75.
January 24 – Returned homework. Gave a quiz. Discussed simplifying expressions, scientific notation and rational
exponents. Homework: Students should know first four or five powers or the first four or five natural numbers. Section
0.2 – 89, 92, 95, 98, 101, 104, 107, 110 115, and 121. Section 0.3 – 1-8, 10 – 70 multiples of 5.
January 29 – Returned quiz. Collected Homework. Discussed properties of radicals, defined polynomials, and discussed
operations on polynomials. Homework: New Web Assign is now open – due before midnight tomorrow. section 0.3 –
75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 113 and 121. Section 0.4 – 21, 25, 29, 34, 38, 43, 46, 52, 59, 63, 71, 75, and 80.
January 31 – Returned homework. Students “met” each other. . .to find a study partner. Discussed rationalizing,
division of polynomials and began the discussion of factoring( monomial factors, grouping, difference of squares and
trinomials). WebAssign homework will be optional. One will open next Tuesday for those of you with access codes.
Homework: Section 0.4 – 85, 89, 101, 105, 109, 112, 114 and Section 0.5 – 1, 9 – 33 odd, and 45, 47, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67,
and 75.
February 5 – CLASS WILL MEET ON THURSDAY!!! Answered several homework questions. Discussed factoring into a a
trinomial squares into a binomial squared and the sum or difference of two cubes. Discussed operations on rational
expressions. First test will be February 14 on sections 0.0 – section 1.2 Homework: Web Assign opened today that is
due by midnight on Friday. Section 0.5 – 77, 87, 91, 103, 105, 108, and 110. Section 0.6 – 1-4, 6- 30 multiples of 3 (3, 6,
9…), then 35 – 50 multiples of 5 at least!!! .
February 7 – Answered questions. Discussed solving linear equations. Homework: Section 1.1 – 9 – 30 multiples of 3
and 35 – 65 multiples of 5, 75 and 80.
