Lyford High School October 2012 Scholarship Bulletin
Scholarship Application Directions: Applying for scholarships is the responsibility of the
students (i.e. meeting deadlines, completing required paperwork, requesting
transcripts, etc.)
Application: The LHS scholarship bulletin is updated monthly to provide students with the
criteria and online application links. Students may pick up a bulletin or a scholarship
application before/after school or during lunch. Read the application and determine
the requirements. Type the application and/or neatly complete the application in
black ink only. Many College and University scholarships are available on the
www.applytexas.org web site.
Transcript: Scholarships which require a transcript must be requested from the registrar’s
office at least two (2) days prior to the deadline. It is the responsibility of the student to
request your official transcript from the Registrar, Yvette Mendoza. Late requests may
not be processed in time, plan accordingly.
Essay Type: The essay(s); Run a spell check, check for grammatical errors, and have
someone proofread it.
Letters of Recommendation: It is the student’s responsibility to ask teachers, counselors,
administrators, and/or people in the community for a recommendation letter. Give your
references no less than 7 days to write a quality letter. Provide information to your
recommender listing your accomplishments, such as a resume.
Deadlines: Strictly adhered to by the scholarship committees. Deadlines are noted as
either “postmarked” or received by dates. Students are responsible for mailing
application by required deadlines unless otherwise noted in the instructions.
Scholarships applications, which are to be submitted to Mrs. Rincones in the counseling
office, must be received by 10:30 a.m. on due date. Keep all the documents together
to be mailed or submitted. In a large yellow envelope, place the application, official
transcript, essay(s), resume, and letters of recommendation. Remember, each
scholarship has its own requirements; late or incomplete applications will not be
considered.

Colgate-Palmolive and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund are partnering to encourage
young Hispanics in the US to get them on the path to higher education. You could win
a $15,000 educational grant or one of 14 additional grants worth $2,500 each. To apply,

DARMOUTH COLLEGE
All students from families with incomes of $75,000 or less will receive free tuition. In

Criteria: The got milk? Futuro Con Leche Scholarship program is available on a

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS
Criteria: The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation, provides low income African American, American Indian/Alaska
Natives, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an
opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of
interest. US citizen, GPA of 3.3 on 4.0 scale (unweighted), entering US accredited
college or university in the Fall of 2012, demonstrated leadership abilities through
community service, extracurricular or other activities, meet Federal Pell Grant Eligibility.

Criteria: HSF offers different scholarship programs for Hispanic American students
enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited Title-IV eligible

HONORS COLLEGE AT TEXAS A & M UNIVERSITY—COMMERCE
Students who are accepted into the Honors College receive an 8-semester
comprehensive scholarship package that includes:

initiated by a Varsity Coach, director of a UIL sanctioned extracurricular activity, school

VAMOS Scholarship
VAMOS sponsors four-year scholarships to deserving high school graduates from various
backgrounds for enrollment at a university of their choice. In addition, VAMOS not only
supports students by paying for tuition & books but helps with motivation and
encouragement through its Mentoring Program which monitors students throughout
their college careers to ensure their success. Amount: $20,000/4years program

UNIVERISTY OF THE INCARNATE WORD
